PPD

I didn't have PPD with DD #1 but am feeling like I might this time around.  Anybody else deal with PPD?  Did you just talk with a therapist or did you have to take medication?

I have a type "A" personality and when things aren't "perfect" I have a hard time dealing.  DD #2 is fussy if not being held, doesn't sleep unless held, hates the swaddle, swing, pacifier, etc.  All things I used to calm DD #1 who was a great sleeper, etc from early on.

I think sleep deprivation, dealing with a toddler and still dealing with my inability to BF due to IGT are not helping the situation either.  Feeling like a failure all around.

I know that this to shall pass but in the moment, it doesn't seem like it.

Re: PPD

  • I didn't have it myself, but my sister did.  My niece was really fussy, my sister felt like a milking machine and just bad in general.  She mentioned it to her OB/GYN and he put her on a low dose medication.  She thought the medicine was a life saver.

  • A few gals I know had PPD.  All ended up on medication of varying dosages and all wished they had gone on the meds sooner, as suddenly it helped them feel okay and enjoy their babies.  All except one I know who has had a lifelong problem with depression went off the meds soon enough.  Talk to your OB ASAP.  At least you are recognizing it and they can help you take the right steps, whether it is therapy, meds, or whatever.  GL!!!  Left Hug

  • ditto Pesky: talk to your OB ASAP. I'm assuming you're still in post partum follow-up--I would call your OB rather than wait until the appointment.
