Sciatica pain in lower back?

I've been experiencing lower back/tailbone pain for the past 5 days or so.  My foot also gets tingly and most of this is focused on my right side of my body.  My cousin told me today that this is most likely my sciatica nerve acting up.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Have you found anything to help relieve the pain?  I've been using heating pads which helps a little.  I've heard that most likely it will go away as soon as the baby is born and is not on that nerve??  I'm going to a chiropractor on and off, but didn't know what was causing the pain to tell him last time.

This is going to be a long last few weeks if this pain continues...

  • Google "pigeon pose prenatal yoga".  This was a lifesaver for me last time around.  This time baby's been kind to my sciatic nerve, but last time I did this almost daily and it worked every time!

  • with LO towards the end it was an every day thing. so far this time it hasen't been that bad. usually if you lie down or try and get him/her to change position it will help a little. good luck!

  • I'm sorry you're feeling bad. Trust me, I know how you feel! The tingling going down your leg could very well be from nerves being pinched off in your lower back from the pressure of the baby. I would absolutely tell your chiro about it. You don't have to know what is wrong with you or why, as long as you can explain what's going on and let your chiro figure it out.

I've also been lucky enough to experience the tailbone pain your talking about. In talking about it with my physical therapist, she told me that it's because of the relaxin hormone. We typically don't have much flexion in our tailbone, but the relaxing hormone causes it to flex more which is painful. I had to resort to getting a coccyx (tailbone) cushion to relieve the pressure when I sit down. For me, it has gotten better, but that might be because baby is higher up right now. I'm not looking forward to my last few weeks, however I see the light at the end of the tunnel! I hope you feel better soon!

  • I've been having this pain the whole pregnancy...it is pretty much a constant thing at this point (sometimes a little better than others, thankfully).

My doctor suggested kind of a childs pose, but with my butt up in the air more.  I do it here and there when the pain is really bad.  It helps move the baby up away from my lower back just a little bit.  It does help, but just for a little while.  But any relief is nice at this point. :)
