Receptionist made me stabby.
I went for my 3 hour glucose tolerance test this morning. The drink doesn't bother me, I don't mind the needles, and I was fine with having 3 hours to sit there and read my Kindle. The problem was the awful receptionist.
My doctor's office outsources all lab work to a (national?) chain of labs. You can walk in, but people with appointments get priority "service." So I went online and made an appointment for 9am this morning. I checked off "Glucose tolerance" on the online form, and it told me I should try to make a morning appointment because I'd be fasting. Great. I even tried to call yesterday to confirm said appointment and request that they refrigerate my delicious glucose punch, but they didn't answer the phone (twice).
So I show up today a whole 15 minutes early and tell the receptionist I'm there for my 3 hour glucose test, and she says, angrily, "Oh no, you're too late. We only take people for the 3 hour test at 7:30am." WHAT?! So I ask her how I was supposed to know that. The online system didn't tell me, and no one answered the phone. So she yells at me that they won't take me after 7:30am because they go to lunch at noon. (It's only a 3 hour test...) So I say, "Fine, I guess I'll have to come back next week." And she's still hassling me about the time, going on and on. Meanwhile, in the 15 minutes she's wasted yelling at me, they could have started the test and gotten me out of there before lunchtime.
Anyway, I'm not proud of this, but I start to cry. I'm pregnant, I'm hormonal, and I'm HUNGRY. So she looks at me and snaps, "Stop crying. You're stressing out the baby. Stop crying." I don't know about most people, but someone yelling at me to stop crying usually has the opposite effect. She says, "Why are you crying? Stop crying. You know, when you cry the baby cries too. Your baby is crying right now."
Well, that just made me furious. I glared at her for a minute and told her I would come back sometime next week at 7:30. Then the phlebotomist walked into the reception area and the receptionist told me not to leave, that they can fit me and they'll just have to go to lunch late. And the she turns to the phlebotomist and says, "Right? We don't take people this late for glucose testing? I told her that and now she's crying." WTF? Is that necessary? And, no, I'm crying because you were yelling at me!
And then she wasted more time being unable to find my "requisition form" in her computer. I simply told her my doctor's office told me they'd sent it to the computer system. She yelled at me again, "You can come here and look at my computer if you don't believe me!" I was like, "I didn't say I don't believe you..." Then someone else found the form for her. So then she asked me if I thought I was supposed to give her my insurance card. Um, are you asking me for my insurance card? What?Anyway, they gave me the stupid test. Now I'm going to see what kind of higher-up I can find to yell at on the phone.

what a B*tch..honestly. I have to go to the same type of place, Labwork is also done by the same person who checks you in. In the whole office there is one person who is the receptionist, secretary, phlebotomist, and all. It's insanely awful and I am dreading going in there for my test.

This. I can't help but think how much I would kill for an office job!
I really hope you report her if for no other reason than to prevent this happening to someone else farther down the road.
Yeah, this. What a freaking peach. I don't see why people like this work with the general public....especially not the pregnant public.

I cannot BELIEVE that she spoke to you that way. Your baby is crying?! What a f-ing b. Let me tell you this... I work in heathcare, registration to be exact. I know for a fact that ALL U.S. heathcare providers are about to be reimbursed based on survey results provided by a third party. Patients go for services, patients get randomly selected to receive patient satisfaction surveys in the mail. The government is overseeing all of this.
So, in a nutshell, EVERY hospital and healthcare provider out there is beefing up on customer satifaction techniques. You NEED to call and speak with the office manager there. There is no way that this person will not at least get a firm talking to about her bad behavior.
