We did with DD and we NEVER used the comforter, bumper or dust ruffle... so we basically bought a $200 fitted sheet. I ended up hanging the comforter on the wall, but even when she is in a big girl bed, we will just put her in a double bed and forego the toddler bed transition so it won't get used then either. I am thinking this time around I am going to buy the wall art and what not and forget about the overpriced and seemingly useless crib bedding set. What are you doing?

Nope... biggest waste from the first time around. I'm getting some sheets, a valance and misc. room decor (changing pad, lamp, wall hanging, frames, etc.). Maybe a rug if I'm feeling inspired.
I'm also hoping the person who made a beautiful quilt for DS in the colors of his room will make one for this baby, too.
We are getting a few cute fitted sheets, but mainly just solid colored fitted sheets. I am making a blanket to carry around with LO, to lay on floor etc.
eta: We are getting a breathable bumper with a striped pattern on it in the same colors as the sheets. I don't want to get too crazy with it all b/c I tend towards clutter.

We also aren't getting one. I haven't found any that I like. We will get sheets - I ordered a fabric swatch the other day to check the color and feel, so hopefully that will be perfect.
We will get a blanket/comforter when we find something we like, though that's turning out to be tough. (I want her bedroom to be royal blue and white with pink accents - turns out no one else in the world wants bedding or fabric like that!).
I love the look of my crib, so I don't want to cover the bottom with a crib skirt. A friend has offered to make curtains, so once we have it more done, we'll have her do that. We found small round rugs at IKEA that we like.
As for a crib bumper, I think we'll wait on that. The little girl I nanny for had a problem when she got big enough to stand in the crib - she'd get her leg caught between the bars in the middle of the night. So they took theirs out and put it on. But if that happens with our baby, we'll just go find a bumper we like.

I bought a bumper on sale at PBK and then just two solid sheets from there as well. Just got it in the mail and looks great! Our crib does not need a crib skirt and I thought a thick comforter for a baby seemed impractical. Here is the bumper I got-
