Cloth Diapering

Clothing over diapers

One of my worries is that my baby won't fit in her regular sized clothing over her cloth diapers. Do any of you have this problem with the cloth diapers adjustable to size? I'm planning on using the one size ones so I don't have to buy them every time she grows, but curious on your experiences with them going over their clothing.

Thanks!

Re: Clothing over diapers

  • Like others said, CDs (especially one size) are definitely bulkier than disposables, but our LO fits into the appropriate size for his weight/height/age without any problems. You will find that there are some that are bulkier than others. Our BG elementals are probably our trimmest OS diapers out of our stash.

  • It really hasn't been an issue for us. It's not like baby clothes are super tight to begin with, you know? He's 5 months and fits some 3-6 and some 6-9 depending on the cut. I think that's pretty typical.
  • DD fits fine into her clothes.  OS will be bulky on a smaller baby and they won't work on a newborn.

  • First, OS diapers will not fit a newborn. They typically don't fit until 10-12 lb. Something to keep in mind.

Second, I've never had an issue with clothes fitting. But even if it was a problem, there are so many solutions out there (bigger sizes, cuffing pants, onesie extenders) that it really wasn't anything to worry about.

My MIL bought DD 2 pairs of shorts this summer, 2 sizes too big. She said it was so her shorts could go over her CDs. Turns out the shorts are huge on her!

  • We generally have to size up in onesies and jeans. Everything else fits fine.
