Potty Training

Fouir hours in and we are on our 6th pair of panties.  I should've known it was going to be rough when we had our first accident within 1 minute of putting on our big girl panties.  Agghh.....  Luckily its laundry day.

Re: Potty Training

  • We're doing the 3 day potty training this weekend too!  We're almost 6 hours in and on pair number 5.  Doesn't look like there will be a nap today as he's told us he has to go 6 times in the last 20 minutes...

  • I wouldn't stress.  Honestly I'm not with the old style of "potty training" and dealing with all those accidents.  When they are ready they don't have all of those.  Now that DS is in underwear we've only dealt with a handful of accidents.  Before we moved him to underwear we did pull ups and would ask him if he need to go and most of the time he kept his pullups dry.  Good luck with training!

  • Hang in there. DD wet about 10 pairs of underwear her first morning (we were loading her with liquids). Then the next day it "clicked" and she started to get the hang of it.

  • Day 1 is far and away the worst. Hang in there!

Every day was laundry day for us during potty training. It sucked.

  • Ohmigosh, this was a terrible, awful, no good day. I am not sure how many accidents DD had, but my favorite one was right before her bath, she went potty. Not five minutes later, she went pee on the floor, in the bathroom, right f'ing next to the toilet. I rarely get angry and i had to fight to keep my temper. I am heartened to hear things clicked for folks on day 2. The only bright spot was when DH was getting her ready for bed, he asked her if she wanted a diaper overnight and she started crying and asking for underpants. On the tally of things that sucked today, she peed on the pottery barn rug twice, DH spent an hour steam cleaning it tonight, and we missed a puddle in her room on the wood floor and it stripped the finish on the wood. I am dreading tomorrow. I know it's against the rules, but we are going to a birthday party, and she will be wearing a pull up for the party, big girl panties be damned. I know I am being unreasonable with myself, but I really feel like I am the one failing. Although the very large glass of wine I just drank is making me feel much better. Here's to day two. And perhaps another very large beverage.
  • Potty training can make you crazy.  It's a process.  One day at a time.

  • You are not a failure! Potty training was by far the worst weekend ever in our house. But, we did not follow the directions and went to a cookout and that was the point where everything clicked for DD. Probably helped that the whole party cheered for her when she used the bathroom :-) best of luck and I totally feel your pain. It does get better.

You are doing great. Potty training is rough and exhausting. Definitely don't feel like you are the one failing. It takes time and sometimes it's 2 steps forward 1 step back.

We had all of your issues with pee on the carpet, etc. She also peed on the couch a few times. One tip is that when she's sitting on the couch with us or watching TV, we put a big black trashbag on the couch and then put a towel over it. She knows she has to sit on that to watch Dora. Actually, we don't do this anymore but we did for about the first month or two.

We still put DD in pull-ups when we go out so I think that's okay. In the beginning, she would sometimes go in the pull-ups because she knew they were pull-ups but now she always asks us to go to the potty even while wearing them. We just use them as a back-up, especially when potties aren't readily available or if the car ride is going to take a while.

  • I have no advice since we haven't been there, but hope today went better! You are certainly not a failure...I am however wondering if there is even hope in potty training before #2 comes, since I can't have that big glass of wine!
