s/o double strollers - double jogging strollers

For those of you who run and have 2+ kids, how often do you go running with both of them?  I have a single jogger now, but we are debating getting a double for running... I'm just not sure how much I'll actually take them both running.  And along those same lines, how much harder is it to push a double jogging stroller vs a single?

Re: s/o double strollers - double jogging strollers

  • Good question.  I was just thinking about this today and wondering how much I'll go jogging with both versus maybe just taking 1?  I guess any time that DH and I want to run together we'd have to have both kids with us, though.  So I probably do need one.

  • Since Isaac was born, Double BOB has seen action 2-3x per week.  We definitely get the $$ out of it.  Its beat up, muddy (DH will do trails with it) and I would recommend to anyone.  This is whether or not I am preparing for a race.  Basically every morning by 10 we are out the door to either the park or the preschool.

Anyway, if you are getting ready for a race or just like to go to the park with your kids a lot, I think you should get one.  I can only get about 3 miles in before I poop out with the Double though.

  • Go for the double BOB. I went through the same thought process and I ended up going with the Phil and Ted's thinking I wouldn't have both with me if I had to run--totally regret not having a double BOB.

Even just walking with 2 kids in a bumpy neighborhood is nicer with the BOB.  Plus there are times when DH has been out of town and I couldn't run because I didn't have a true double jogger.

  • The double BOB is exponentially heavier, but it really is only an issue pushing up hills for an extended amount of time. I use the double BOB for everything! Park, playing at the river, neighborhood walks, zoo, it is my go to stroller. I also have a double Maclaren that would be used for the mall (although I NEVER do that!) and it is my airport/travel stroller and I love it too. If you are REI members, you can use your points/$ toward the BOB and twice/year you get a 20% off coupon that can also be used. Since they never go on sale, this is a great deal!

  • Maybe a few times in the beginning, but never now.  Colin is so tall he barely even fits in it anymore and with both kids in it, I'm pushing over 105 lbs!  Couple that with the hills in Grant Park and the handlebar height, and it's a no go for me.  We use it to go to the zoo or on walks but I hate running with it.  I like to run alone - it's my only 'me' time.  I wouldn't trade it for anything, I just find it uncomfortable to run with and not worth running junk miles.
  • I keep contemplating this too.  DH thinks we don't need one because of the almost 3 year age difference and the fact that Elliot is so big.  In a way I agree but don't want to miss out on running time because I only have the single.

  • What are "junk" miles?
  • I use it for running and we use it at the zoo, festivals, disney, pretty much anything outdoors. It's the only stroller we have that Bailey actually fits in pretty well b/c he can let his legs rest on the point on it.

Now that it's cooler, I run at least once a week with both of them. It's hard going up hills but it's easy to move with just one hand even with both kids.

I've seen the newer ones at REI and they feel/look lighter then mine. The seats also do not look as deep as the one I have.
