Can you tell me about Roanoke?

I lived in N. VA as a kid but I don't know anything about the Roanoke area.  My husband is interviewing for a job in Roanoke on Monday.  We currently live in Memphis.  

Is Roanoke somewhere we would want to move and raise a family?

    There are some really nice areas in Roanoke/Salem and the surrounding area.  I live about 45mins-1hr away but have family that live there.  Ive been in southwest va my entire life.

    Don't know if you've already made a decision but I've lived in Roanoke my whole life & though its a bit boring at times it was a good place to grow up.  Now my husband & I are starting our family & we feel its a good place to raise our son.
