Fasting on Yom Kippur while pregnant?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and I do not like the idea of fasting on Yom Kippur.  I am someone who normally needs to eat throughout the day even when not I am not pregnant.  I plan to not gorge myself but will eat little meals throughout the day. Has anyone fasted, or purposely not fasted, while pregnant on Yom Kippur?

    I'm not Jewish, but I had a similiar situation as a Catholic during Lent.  I purposely did not fast while pregnant, because I didn't think it was safe for the baby.  I did a little research and found out that it was acceptable to not fast in certain situations, pregnancy being one of them.  I tried to acknowledge my faith in different ways.  I know everyone has different beliefs and levels of religious commitment, but maybe something like that would work for you?

    I agree with PP.  That is totally correct about not fasting if pregnant (at least that's what I have read).  I plan to attend services (night services will be rough, since I'm usually exhausted by then), but don't plan to alter my eating, especially since I'll only be 5-6 weeks pregnant, and I'm not willing to do anything that might endanger the pregnancy.

    I'm not Jewish but agree with other posters. There are certain situations where it would seem to be an exception, pregnancy being one of them. I was told I had to fast for 12 hours to get a life insurance physical. My dr advised against it and said while it probably wouldn't do any harm to the baby, it would likely make me feel very weak, dizzy and nauseous. Hate to say it and this is probably a controversial opinion for some but baby comes before religious rules!

    Have you asked your Rabbi about this? I know that for Catholics, standard fasting rules state that pregnant women are exempt from the fasting requirement, although they are encouraged to find other non food related forms of fasting to mark the day. It wouldn't surprise me if Judaism has similar provisions.

    Us pregnant ladies are given a 'free pass' on fasting for YK.

    Pregnant women, the elderly and infirmed, and children who have not be Bat or Bar Mitzvah'd yet are not required to fast.
