June 2012 Moms

Worried all the time!

So my first OB appointment is scheduled for 10/31 (I've been seeing a NP). They'll do an u/s and bloodwork then.  However, I can't stop reading about missed m/c and worrying!  I really don't know how I'll be able to stand this in between appointments without going crazy during the first trimester!  How does anyone stay calm??

Re: Worried all the time!

  • Deep breaths and every time a scary thought enters my head, I chase it away with a positive one.  That's really all I've come up with so far.  Well, and I stopped reading stuff that scared me!  As someone who had a loss already, I think it helps me to know that although it was very sad and horrible, I did live through it and now I'm pregnant again, so maybe that helps give me some perspective.  Do you like the serenity prayer?  It helps me a lot too...

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

    Hope you feel better soon!

All of this is great advice.  I am also trying to stay away from googling every scary pregnancy thought I have.

BTW - I love Humphrey - he looks like he is trying to get busy with the June bug!

  • Stay away from google. Yes! It's informative but also extremely overwhelming to read into each possibility. Today you are pregnant - enjoy it. Remember we are all scared! It's normal.

  • You just have to be positive.  You have no control over what happens (as long as you're not doing drugs or anything crazy) and you just have to take it one day at a time.

If it really drives you nuts you could buy or rent a doppler which should be able to pick up a heartbeat after 10 weeks so you can check on LO when you're feeling anxious.
