One of my teen voluteers just came in with her mom. The mom congratulated me on the pregnancy and then started asking me questions. I ended up telling her we'll be finding out the sex in 18 days. The mom says to me, "you don't need to know the sex." Ummm. Yes I do. She then told me again that I didn't and she never knew. "There are so few surprises in this world," she said. Well, this baby was one helluva surprise. That was enough for me.
This was the first time a person has ever tried to make me feel guilty for something I wanted!!! Ugh. I wanted to yell at her.
Re: Grrrrrrrr!
DH's step-father said the same thing to me! He was like "You want to know? Really? That's too bad...." .........Wth??!?!
Then he went off on a rant about how it won't hurt the kid to smack him if he's misbehaving and that many people these days are not disciplining their children correctly. I zoned out pretty quickly during that rant!
Welcome to the world, Baby W: born on 3/8/12 @ 3:49pm - 8lb 11 oz, 22 in.
But... It's a surprise anytime you find out... It's not like you're going to see a penis and it morphs into a vagina in the next 20ish weeks... Being unsure if baby doesn't cooperate is one thing, but when it's definite... Well...
I was getting really mad. I even started to explain to her that we have BF's son, so I need to know the sex so I can figure out if we're going to split his room in 2 or create a totally different room by splitting our dining room in 2. Then I thought, "Why are you telling this person? She doesn't need to know."
Sigh. I just want to go home.

This is exactly how I feel! I was just as surprised to find out LO was a girl when I found out at an early scan as I would have been on Baby's birthday (although granted, it might have been less emotionally-charged).
And this way, I get the surprise of finding out the sex of my baby AND I can get everything ready for her prior to her arrival without having to go gender-neutral (which I personally hate).

I get crap too. I found out with the first two and this time we are going to wait just because we want too. I don't understand why people need to say crap either way. Like it matters to you random stranger!
