Incision issues...(TMI?)

I wanted to post this because I thought it might be helpful to others.  I had my baby boy 5 weeks ago tomorrow.  The first 2 weeks my incision looked great, went for my 2w pp appointment and they were very happy with how I was healing.

Shortly after that the ends started to ooze a little.  I called the dr. because I am deathly afraid of infection.  She told me that it was normal and part of the healing process.  She also told me not to put anything on it and to keep it clean and dry, and that I could use a pad to cover it if it was oozing a lot.

I had dissolving stitches and glue.  Finally this week I was able to get the glue and scabs off of the ends of the incision and they oozing has stopped.  I also put a small amount of neosporin on it after the glue/scabs came off.

One  side was stuck in the suture so I had to trim it off, the dr. told me to do that too.

So if you are having issues just be patient, it will get better!

Re: Incision issues...(TMI?)

  • Sounds the same with me. I got my staples taken out 3 days after I got them. Then they put the sterry strips on my incision. I was seeping too, and it got the strips wet and made them fall off. It was awful.

The best soap to use is Dial. And the best pad to put on your incision for the seeping is Johnson & Johnson Red Cross Brand Hospital Grade-No stick pads. They worked wonders for me.

However, I kept having issues with the seepage. It wasn't slowing down. And I had been washing it twice a day as directed by my doctor. Went in, and my OBGYN examined it, had a slight infection, & the outside of my incision was healing faster than the inside was. So they had to stretch the little opening further open to let built up fluids drain out. It hurt very badly. but not even a week later, all seepage stopped completely. I healed up well.

So, I agree. Keep your had up. Things will get better. I wish all you the best of luck. And if you're not sure or even nervous about your incision. Don't be afraid to call and ask the doctor!

  • Can I ask you ladies a question?  I have the dissolving sutures, and I am 9 days out from my C-section.  I went in on Wed for a check, and was told everything looks fine.  After the appointment, I felt comfortable to touch the incision area, and I am noticing that below where they cut the skin, there is a hard raised area underneath the entire length of my scar that seems pretty sensitive.  I am assuming this is where they sutured my uterus. If this is the case, is it to be so raised like it is?  It just seems really weird.  I don't know if the nurse had pushed down on my incision to feel it.  I figure that if they say things look fine, I should just push through it, but then again its just so strange.  Thanks in advance for any advice.
