C-sections

Are Yoga Pants OK?

I know this sounds silly but my plan was to wear yoga pants and easy access v-neck shirts in the hospital and for a while post delivery. Now that I'm having a c-section will this still work? I'm totally unclear here about how much pain I may be in and if having pants sitting on the scar is a no-no. I'm imagining myself in moo-moos and I'm not liking the image. Can I wear yoga pants in the hospital right after or do I need gowns?

Re: Are Yoga Pants OK?

  • I know I wouldn't have been able to. The area was sensitive and I didn't like anything on the staples. I will probably have a repeat and may take some pants in case I feel differently this time. I guess I'm saying take the pants just in case.

  • Pants are ok as long as the waist is high, nothing by your hair line will feel good no matter how loose they are.  This goes for underwear too :)

  • I've been wearing maternity yoga pants and they work great. They sit higher on my waist so they don't both my scar and also hold my belly in. :P

  • i am bringing yoga pants this time, they fold down and are black in case of staining.  your incision will be checked about 500x by every nurse/Dr. and last time i wore nightgowns and had to show off the goods every time.  also with pants on you don't have to keep the covers pulled up--the hospital was so hot.

  • As soon as I could get changed out of the gown I was in my yoga pants. So much more comfortable than the gown

  • I wore yoga pants and nursing tanks after both of my sections and it was awesome.  They'll give you big pads to put over your incision and mesh panties to wear.  I say, yes, you're good to go.

  • I liked wearing my hospital gown during my (five day) stay just because I didn't have to worry about getting it dirty. I wore gowns the whole time and left wearing a loose shirt and my PJ pants. I wore yoga pants in the first few days at home and they sat high enough to not be a problem with my incision.
  • I wore Old Navy yoga pants home from the hospital.

  • I was so scared to wear pants at first, but obviously had to to go home. Once I put them on I didn't know what I was so scared of. Both my sweats and yoga pants are low rise and the waist band still didn't sit on my incision, and the snugness was kind of nice - I felt like I was held together a little better.

  • I just wore the gown in the hospital, but I wore nothing but yoga pants the first couple of weeks home.  You can just wear them above the incision.

  • You can, if it doesn't hurt, but I wouldn't have been able to.  I even packed some yoga pants and some nursing tanks and for the first full day after surgery I just stayed in the hospital gown.  Anything right up against my scar killed me!  I wore granny panties for a couple months b/c my low rise bikini undies were right at my scar line and it hurt pretty bad.  Don't even worry about what you look like or what you are wearing.  Trust me, you won't even care...you will only care what is comfortable to wear near your incision.  Good luck!

  • I wore yoga pants and sweatpants in the hospital after my c-section. I thought they were comfortable enough. I'm going to guess that it probably depends on the individual. I was more comfortable wearing my yoga pants than I would have been in a hospital gown.

  • Yoga pants are all I wore the first few days. I felt more secure with pants on rather than just a gown.

  • I wore night gowns while I was there and yoga pants when I left. Either way it's not going to be comfy.
  • I was able to wear whatever I wanted after my c-sections, but my OB puts a binder on as soon as he's done closing up. But with that binder on I was wearing regular jeans when I left the hospital and it didn't bother my incision at all.

  • I couldn't wear my yoga pants. I didn't think I'd want to stay in the gown at the hospital, but it was actually easier.

At home, I lived in dresses and nightgowns.

  • Yoga pants and sweat pants hurt me for two weeks. I had to wear the hospital gown the entire stay, and then long maxi dresses the next two weeks until I healed a little bit more.
