C-sections

New c section method?

I'm due December 28th to have our third baby. Our lactation consultant told me about this "new" type of C-Section that I think might really help ease my fears of the procedure itself. I had a very hard time when my son Jaxson was born because during my first c-section with my first son Kaidan the woman having one at the same time as I did hemorrhaged and died, and since then I've had a great deal of anxiety about the whole situation even though I know that those instances are EXTREMELY RARE. The new process seems like it would give me something else to focus on, the baby would spend less time away from me after birth, and we would also be able to nurse sooner and establishing our nursing as soon as possible is also really important to me. Some of the steps in the procedure are controversial - or just not explored thoroughly enough yet ( Such as delayed cord clamping ) we might alter the process a little to fit our OB & hospital but I'm really praying for this. I'm planning to bring research to my OB at my next visit to support my choices in hopes that she will also support them. Wish us luck :) I'm figuring that I'm not the only mom out there looking for a more personal & natural feeling option. I'm going to post the link to the video about it below as well as the information I've been given. Good luck to all you other mommies too!!! https://youtu.be/m5RIcaK98Yg

Re: New c section method?

  • Very interesting.  Do you know if the hospital you are delivering at would support this?

  • I have heard of hospitals supporting skin-to-skin contact and never leaving the mother unless there is a medical need as well as lowering the sheet. This was going to be one of the requests I was going to make for my next c-section. If my local hospital cannot accomodate that than I will be going to one that does.

Yes, I just have to bring her all of my information. If you want a copy of the back up info I have too I'll make sure you get it if you send me your email. Good luck!

  • I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but I didn't realize that most mothers didn't get skin-to-skin with their LO's after a c-section. The only time I was separated from LO was the 5 minutes it took them to clean her up when she came out. I got skin to skin right after that and was able to breastfeed in recovery about 30 minutes after she was born. The whole time they sewed me up, I held her skin-to-skin. It was an amazing experience, and because of that, I don't feel shorted at all for having a c-section.
OP, I hope your hospital and OB allow to have the experience you want.
