Pregnant after a Loss

X-Post from Feb. Decreased movement

I'm starting to get pretty concerned. I have barely felt LO move yesterday or today. This morning I was worrying about it before work so I picked up an iced cappucino (I figured cold+caffeine=squirmy baby)... now I'm sitting at my desk having finished it, and still no movement from baby. Usually he is pretty active so I'm starting to get very concerned. Has anyone else delt with this? What else can I try to get him to move, and how long should I wait it out with no movement before I go to an emerg or something to find out why?

(I don't have a doppler, so I can't easily check)

ETA: I have also been having braxton hicks contractions for the past day or so. Not regularly enough to be a concern, but enough that I've noticed. I don't know if that could cause the decreased movement. Usually after braxton hicks i find he is more active, like he's ticked off about it.

Added for PGAL: I'm freaking out now. It's been more than 24 hours since I've felt him, and I just have this empty feeling. I feel like he isn't there. I've tried more coffee, more cold drinks, eating, pushing on my stomach to try to jiggle him around and get some action out of him and nothing. I know it's early to expect reguler movement, but I ALWAYS feel him, and have never had that empty "he isn't there" feeling. What would you do given the situation?

  • Have you tried laying on your side or back? Shifting my body always gets Sydney up and going.

I tried that all last night. I am considering spending my lunch break at work in our sick room, laying down to try to get him going, maybe it'll work this time

Can you call your doctor and see if you can get in for a doppler check? If you had been feeling at least a movement or two every few days, I can see why you'd be concerned (even though you know movement isn't consistent for at least another couple months).

    Lots of T&Ps.

I'm thinking of going in to urgent care, as I'm in the process of switching OBs because mine never answers the phone, or returns messages which is REALLY not helpful at times like these. I'm thinking a doppler check may be the only way to calm my nerves if I cant somehow get him going.

    Thanks for the T&Ps

  • Never be afraid to call your ob...if anything call and request a doppler check if you can't get him up and rolling. T&Ps ... keep us updated.

This.  Another thing that will get LO moving is really sweet ice cream or lemonade (the fake kind full of sugar).

  • Follow your instincts. Go to urgent care. It is still pretty early in your pregnancy to expect to feel consistent movement but yeah for your peace of mind I think you should go in. Big hugs. Keep us updated.

  • I understand why you are worried, that would freak me out too.  But, I have had that "empty" feeling you talk about.  Just this morning actually.  I think they are still small enough that they can move away from where we can feel them.  If it were me I would probably call the OB though after 24 hours of no movement at all.   I really think he just escaped you though.  ((Hugs))

  • I definitely have quiet days, and they completely freak me out! I would get a doppler check just for peace of mind.

  • I would be freaking out too if it had been 24 hours since I last felt movement, so I hope you took the others' advice to go get a doppler check. I'm sure LO is just taking a really long nap, but to me it's not worth the agony. GL, keep us posted!

  • Your baby is still small enough that he could be moving and you just don't feel it but there's no harm in checking it out just to make sure. I'd call my OB but since you are between OB's, I guess your best bet is urgent care. GL and keep us posted.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • Please go straight to L&D and call your OB on the way. Tell them you have felt no movement in 24 hours, you're on your way to L&D and need him/her to call in an NST. Do not wait...

  • Some days I feel lots of movement, and some days hardly any. It's not very consistent at this point. Yesterday we had a u/s and the baby was twisting, kicking, and flipping and I thought, wow, I didn't even feel that? But if you are concerned and have a bad feeling I would definately say go get it checked out for your peace of mind. Good luck.

  • I think I would go in for a doppler check.  It definitely couldn't hurt anything and will hopefully give you some reassurance.  Sending lots of T&Ps that LO is just fine and is hiding.  Please keep us updated.
