a c-section isnt major surgery...

...According to my FIL. 3 days after my c/s, my aunt and uncle were visiting, and asked me how I was feeling. I told them I was really sore, and having a hard time getting in and out of bed, and standing up and sitting down, but doing ok. At that point, my FIL said "what are you gonna do when you have something major happen?". So 21 hours of labor ending in a c-section isn't major, and a c-section isn't major surgery just so you know!

    Oh my groodness, I would have had to pick my jaw up off of the floor! Here FIL, let me slice open your abdomen and we'll see how un-major you find it. And why the F would you ask someone how they are doing just to put them down when they tell you?

    Wow!  I've had my appendix out & had an ovarian cyst removed, both of which had me out of work for 2 weeks to recover.  If having a whole baby pulled out isn't major surgery, then what pray tell would qualify?

    Combined with exhaustion and pure shock, all I could get out was, "I thought it was major surgery...".

    My husband (who's in hospital finance) started to tell me the same thing the other night, based off of some scale they use to determine reimbursement.  Lucky for him, the look I gave him shut him up pretty quickly.  This from the man who 20 minutes earlier was whining about his sore arm from his TDap shot. :)

    Sorry your FIL was being so obnoxious!

    Technically according to the definition it isn't major surgery most of the time, so that's probably what he meant. But it isn't an "easy" surgery or recovery at all.

    Wow, I guess I'd better call the patient care coordinator at my hospital and tell them their OBs and post-partum staff is lying to patients.  They all told me I had major surgery.

    Well, being cut open from one hip bone to the other counts as major surgery in my books. I just love when guys play down anything childbirth / pregnancy related. I would have told him to shut the fvck up, I think.

    Sorry, but my opinion is anytime they cut open your abdomen its major...if its not major why was I on morphine for 24 hours post surgery and then percocet & acetaminophen for another week??!!

    I am going to LOL that one...if he is complaining about TDap...tell him take a run at smallpox, anthrax or gamma globulin.  Which all three at the same time do not compare to c-sect recovery.

    /hugs to my hubby for not ever once downplaying the seriousness of a c-section.
