    The AST and ALT are enzymes produced by the liver cells and when the cells are damaged they are released in the bloodstream so you find a higher level. however the AST level is not as specific as the ALT level and if the ALT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, and total protein are all normal it's unlikely to be an problem with the liver.

    As far as the weight, I'm sorry. We had a lot of problems with weight gain as well. Elena took a long time to hit the third percentile on the CDC growth charts but there are newer growth charts from the WHO that we are supposed to be using but a lot of us are not yet. On the old growth charts Elena is 40th%ile for height and 3rd for weight but on the WHO charts she is 15%ile for both so that made us feel better when we realized there is a huge difference.
