Success after IF

Did your rings get tight when pregnant?

I have 3 rings on my wed finger... my e-ring (a solitare), my wedding band (a band of small diamonds), and my great grandma's wedding ring.  I just had them all sized and fused into one band (in back).

It's a bit big, fit-wise,  now ;-(

If I stand there and shake my hand a bunch, it could come off. Now obviously who does that? but it's just not quite as hard to get off as I would like.  I don't remember my fingers swelling much with Ava, but who knows what will happen now.

What happens to your rings when you're pregnant? (I might wait to size it again?)

Funny sidebar - my solitare sits in the middle of the other two rings. When I got it back today, I LOVED it, but then immediately was SUPER bummed, because I forgot to tell her that I wanted it so my wed band would be "closest to my heart", not my GG's ring. She looked at me like I was crazy. Smiled. Then pulled it off my finger, TURNED IT AROUND, and said "there. Happy?"

LOL.  This, coupled with the fact I wore two different flippy floppies out ALL DAY last week, well.... these babies are evidently sucking on 'me brain.

Re: Did your rings get tight when pregnant?

  • Mine never got tight enough not to get them off. A smudge tighter then they are now.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • Mine got tight. I wore them on a chain around my neck starting around the halfway point. But after I had Will (and got rid of the post-partum swelling), they fit perfectly again.
  • My 1st pg I had minimal swelling and wore my wedding & engagement rings up until I delivered with no problems (note: my daughter was born in late October so it wasn't terribly hot during most of my 3rd tri).

My 2nd pg, I was in tropical summer in my 3rd tri b/c we moved overseas right at 32 weeks.  I wasn't wearing my wedding & engagement rings b/c of our move (I don't wear diamonds here due to petty crime they could attract) but I had another two other bands that always fit snugly on my ring finger than I stopped wearing b/c I didn't want them to get stuck on my finger.  I don't know if it would've but it was super hot & humid and it was snug to begin with so I just didn't want to risk it.

  • My rings were already hard to take off but when I was pg, I had to take them off around 17 wks and couldn't put them back on until about 6 wks pp.

  • My rings never got tight and I never had to stop wearing them. I also have 3 (e-ring, wedding band, band for Doodles), and when it's colder out they clink and are loose and could all off if I'm not careful, especially when hand washing. Same holds true when I'm pregnant, and now that I'm not, fit is exactly the same as always.

  • With Kira I had to take mine off at a certain point and I bought a cheapo stand in.

With Elena I never did.  Same season and everything.

  • With Lucy I was fine until about 4 weeks before my due date.  All of a sudden I thought of it and couldnt' get them off.  They didn't fit uncomfortably tight but wouldn't come off.  I freaked since my wed ring is an heirloom but it was no big deal.  OB even said if I ended up with an emergency C they wouldn't need to cut them off.

With #2 I could get them on and off the whole time

  • My 2 rings both have fairly thick bands and I have short fingers.  I was about 7-8 months pregnant when I couldn't wear them both.  And only a few days away from delivery when I couldn't wear my wedding band alone either.  I was lucky and didn't have much swelling at all.  My overall blimp "look" was just fat, not water!

  • Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!  You've got preggo brain!!!

My fingers swelled with P but I can't remember at how many weeks.  They went back to normal sometime after I had him. I am still able to wear my rings with this pregnancy at nearly 31 weeks.  It is just my feet/ankles that are seeing the swelling so far.

  • my wedding band has always been too big...i decided not to get it sized down after we got married, knowing that we wanted to get pregnant.  it fit throughout my pregnancy with cal and continues to fit 31 weeks into this one...crossing my fingers it will until the end!  i haven't had any swelling, and didn't with cal either.

  • I would wait to resize them just in case.  Mine got tight at about 5-6 months.  Due to the severe swelling with pre-e later, it took awhile to get them on again.

  • My rings fit the whole time with both pregnancies.  I had a 2 rings with the triplets (e-ring and wedding band).  I had 4 rings with this last pg (e-ring and one eternity band for each boy).  I thought for sure that with a thicker stacking ring this time that I'd have to take them off, but fortunately I didn't swell in my hands.

  • You can always get those cheap clear things to make the rings a little more snug until you are sure that your ring size won't change any more.  I definitely wouldn't size down now, but I wouldn't want them to fall off either.

  • With all 3 PG's mine got very tight :( I had to take them off during each PG.....and it was earlier each time. After DS1, I still couldn't get them on 7 months pp.....so we had to resize them :( After DS2, they went back on around 4-5 months pp. DD is almost 4 months and I can't get them back on yet. They go on, but are very tight.

    GL!

  • Nope, I didn't swell at all.  I wore all 3 of my rings (all on my ring finger as well) while I delivered and while in the hospital with both kids.  Mine fit the same way you described If I shook my hand hard enough and for long enough the top one would come off....I may or may not have done that once to test it out;)

I don't even bother bringing my rings when we were down in Disney during our trips while I was pregnant. I wasn't far along at those points but I just knew it was going to swell!

  • Mine got too small (similar 3 ring set up, fused) around 24 weeks.  It took me a long time to get them back on pp, maybe 3 months or so even though I didn't feel swollen and was getting back into my regular clothes.  I'd wait and see.

  • Mine got too tight to wear starting at about 20 weeks. But, I think that while my pre-e was not diagnosed until the very end, it was brewing for a long time. So, I am not the best person to reference.

I would wait until after the pregnancy to resize.

  • I had swelling and had to stop wearing my ring after awhile with both pregnancies. I'd wait. Even if you don't swell, don't risk it.
  • Yep, I was so bloated by the 3rd tri that there was no way I could wear them. I was so scared that it was because I gained so much weight (50 lbs, yikes) but thankfully those suckers slipped right back on soon after giving birth.

  • I had to take my rings off at 32 weeks. It made me SO sad to not be able to wear my rings...as soon as my LO's were here, I tried them all the time to see if they would go back on. It took 7 weeks PP for them to fit, but once they did I smiled from ear to ear!

I told the director of our MoM's group how sad I was to not be able to wear my wedding/engagement rings and she suggested I put my wedding band on a necklace chain, so it would be close to my heart...which is exactly what I did :)

  • My e-ring is slightly smaller than my wedding ring and I'd say I stopped wearing that before 6 months. The wedding band was gone a month later and the Claires cheapo size 10 I bought after the 20 year old barrista at starbucks gave me a pity look for being an old pregnant spinster came off a few weeks before delivery. So, yeah, they got tighter. Everything fits well mow so I would wait.

  • With DS I took them off around 37 weeks and got them back on about 2 months after he was born.  This time, I had to take them off probably at 20 weeks??!!  They were snug and I freaked when I had to really pull to get them off one day.  I bought myself a CZ wedding and engagement ring on the internet that looked just like my real ones!  I couldn't stand not to be wearing my rings.  No one noticed that they aren't my real rings so far except the girl that does my nails and one of my friends!

  • Mine got VERY tight so much so that I couldn't wear them with E.  I'm at almost 30 weeks now with the twins and they just now starting to get a big tight.  I wouldn't do anything to your rings until the pregnancy is over bc you just never, exp with twins how your body will react.

  • I had to stop wearing my e-ring and band around 30 weeks because of swelling. It took a while to get them on after he arrived, but that was due to my gaining 62 pounds with the pregnancy. But they are on now and they are the same size they were on my wedding day.

  • I had horrible swelling and carpal tunnel.  My rings came off at 19 wks.  I wore my thin anniversary band instead.

I used to manage a jewelry store so here's my advice.  Absolutely don't resize them now.  Sizing too many times can weaken the shanks (backs) of your rings where they are sized plus it can get really expensive.  Wait until several weeks or months even after delivery.  Odds are great that you'll be able to put them back on within a few weeks.  Some women though end up being a slightly larger ring size after pregnancy for the rest of their lives.  You'll really just have to wait and see.

  • when i gain weight, i gain it in my upper body (including hands), so i was nowhere NEAR being able to wear my rings. i went from a size 5 in rings to a size 9. ended up just getting a $20 ring from target to wear--no reason to put the ring through re-sizing just for a year of being a different weight.

  • I have a wide e-ring, and then a skinny wedding band.  With DS1, in 1st tri, they both just bothered me, so I took them off.  But I wore them both again from 2nd tri until part of 3rd, where my e-ring got too tight.  After DS1 was born, it fit again.

With DS2, same 1st tri thing, but I had to stop wearing my e-ring about 16 weeks, and at about 22 weeks had to stop wearing my wedding band.  I can get the wedding band on, but it's still a little tight,.  And while I can force the e-ring on, it's not comfy.  I think I need to get them both re-sized, but I'm giving it until after the new year just in case...
