3rd Trimester

Baby dropped and Mama's in misery

I went to the OB today after having major pressure-pain in my pelvis.  Doctor checked my cervix and noted the baby has dropped very low.  She said I haven't dilated any but "almost," whatever that means.  It's hard for me to roll over in bed, get up from a seated position, walk around, etc.  I am SO uncomfortable. Not sure if this will go away now until baby is born.  Ugh!

Re: Baby dropped and Mama's in misery

  • Oh man, this happened to me on Monday, I had an appt today and was thinking I had to be at least 1cm dilated, but nope! I have a 20 month old that I don't know how I'm going to keep up with until the baby is born! My pelvic bones just ache if I'm not sitting or laying and moving around is hard!!!

  •   I know what you mean, I feel like there is a bowling ball between my legs, and when I sit down sometimes I want to cry from the pain. I got checked yesterday, and no dilation, not even soft cervix any more, but the baby's head is right there.
  • Welcome to the club. My sacrum has been pushed out of place and they made me go on bedrest because I can't walk. I was told as baby gets bigger and continues to engage, it will only get worse. You need to find a good chiropractor though, because if your pelvis is out of alignment, labor will be much more difficult.

  • I am in the same situation too.  I am just a little over 34 weeks along.  I went to my Dr apt yesterday and my Dr just looked at me and told me the baby dropped, then she did some measurements to verify it.  She sd the baby's head is very low in my pubic region.  Sometimes it feels like I got kneed in the groin as well as lots of pressure.  I always thought when the baby dropped labor would start soon after, but apparently that isn't the case, esp with 1st time moms.  Good luck to all you!  I agree with the chiropractor too- they help a lot.  I have been doing that and massages!

  • Reading this makes me scared that this will happen to be but 10 times worse. I was in a car accident a couple years back and my pelvis was broken in 2 places. they placed pins in to hold it in place and one of the pins is placed at the opening of my pelvis. TMI but they actually went in at my vagina area while doing the surgery to place the pin so im so so worried that it may make things pretty hard on me once the baby drops. Noone has had experience with this have they?

  • I know, it's awful.  I wasn't expecting this. BUT there is a light at the end of the tunnel (I think).

  • Mine dropped two nights ago, and I've been uncomfortable too. Not miserable all the time, but I do have to be careful about quick movements or it feels like my pelvis is cracking in two. Walking upstairs is uncomfortable for sure, as is leaning forward and bending over. Oy. Also unpleasant -- he seems to be bumping against my colon. It feels like I'm constipated with the biggest, most painful bowel movement ever.

Ah, the glamour of pregnancy. Cool

  • I've been experiencing the same thing for about a week now.  I still have 11 days left.  I"m not sure if I'm dilated or effaced as my OB said there's no need to do an internal exam since I'm not having any contractions.  She did say she'd check me on our next appointment, at the 39 week mark.
It's difficult for me to stay in a seated position for a long period of time...even with my legs elevated.  I feel a lot of pressure in my pelvis/groin and then eventually in my back.  The only time I feel comfortable is when I'm walking or laying on my side.
