MH went with me. He wasn't allowed in the ultrasound room but he did sit with me while I was hooked up to the monitors in the hospital room. I was glad to have someone to talk to! I think it would be lonely laying there by yourself.
Mine was not scheduled, I was sent after an OB appointment, so I just had my iPhone.
DH came with me. There was a tv in the room that kept us occupied. It took about 2 hours for them to get a good reading but only because my LO kept moving!! Good luck.
DH comes sometimes, when he can. With my first, I had NST's every week (like I am now) and he was there for every one. You've got to hold a clicker in 1 hand, and my nurse gives me water in my other so I don't have any hands to do anything but lie there. It was nice for me just to have DH there to talk to.
My name is Julie. I'm a SAHM mom of 2 and married for 7 yrs!
Missing my Angel Babies- 7/29/08, 10/11/10 both at 9 weeks.
Another baby girl due in October 2011!
Dh has never come w/ me to any of my NST and i was having them done twice a week. i either had them done when he was at work or he had to be home to watch DS. I'd bring a magazine or book to read and it was actually nice to have some time alone. i actually never even thought about asking him to go w/ me. lol

I go by myself because I don't want my DH to take time off of work. I rather have him take time off when the baby is actually here. I just lay there and listen to my baby's heart beat. I love hearing her heart beat. I don't bring anything to keep me occupied because it goes by pretty quick. (20mins but I do hear some people might take longer)

I had my toddler along. I stopped on the way there and picked up my mom and she and Jack kept me company in the room. If I had gone alone I dont think I would have been bored honestly. It would have been nice to just lay there and relax and hear the HB on the doppler.

I had a surprise one today after my OB visit so DH was there. We didn't really talk or anything he played on his iPhone and I concentrated on waiting for movements. It was actually pretty calming to just take a while and relax while listening to the heartbeat. Mine took about 45 minutes.
I have been going once a week for the past 4 weeks, and I never take anyone with me, and I don't take any 'entertainment' either. Normally it is about 40 minutes, you're just sitting there with the machine hooked up and the clicker in your hand - sometimes you have some ice water if the baby isn't moving around much. One time they made me eat a sandwich to force the baby to move around more. Normally I'm just chillin there on the chair/bed thing, the nurse asks a lot of questions to update your file and that's about it.
For me, I feel the movements better when it's quiet and I'm still....I think reading a magazine or something would distract me from clicking the clicker when there is movement. My husband would also be very bored sitting around there with me, I feel like it would be a waste for him to take time off work for it.
I only had one and it was unplanned. Thankfully I had brought my kindle with me to the appt so I just read while I was hooked up to the monitors. I doubt I'd ask DH to come along for them, it seemed pretty boring to me.

Thanks so much for all the replies! I'm feeling more prepared now that I know what to expect. And I don't think I'll bug my DH to take time off work since it sounds like he'd be pretty bored. I'll relax and enjoy some down time
I have bi-weekly NST's and my DH goes with me every time. It's only about 20 minutes, and we just sit there and talk. It's very nice and relaxing. I do bring cranberry juice with me just in case LO doesn't want to cooperate during the monitoring.

I have 2 a week and my DH comes to them all. He is also able to come into the ultrasound room.
I always bring my kindle so I can read while I am hooked up.
I went alone -- there's not space in our NST for visitors really.
Bring a magazine!

I agree with most of the ladies! I go alone but would love company - i am a chatter! :-)
Sometimes, I play with my phone or read. Honestly, I like just listening to the baby
