SO Gravy ... I have a serious ???

Okay so I grew up on the East Coast but I'm originally from the Mid-West and spent most of my summers and Holidays there.... okay so when my Gramma would make Mashed potatoes and Gravy (Turkey Gravy ) It ALWAYS had hard boiled eggs (chopped up)  and chunks of meat IN the gravy. I have never seen it with hard boiled eggs anywhere else and people look at me with 3 heads when I make it that way...... soooo have you ever have gravy with hard boiled eggs ???

and go!

  • No... that might just make me hate gravy if I saw that .... but guess you can't knock anything until you try it right lol

  • No but I actually don't think it would be that bad.

White gravy grosses me out -- the husb likes it.

We (when we do Thanksgiving on our own) just take the bird drippings and my husb works his magic.  I don't know details but it ends up delicious and it's all natural, so.....yumm.

  • No, where I grew up, you fry sausage, bacon, or ham, brown flour in the grease, add a bunch of pepper and some salt & milk, and there's your gravy. SO GOOD.

  • IT'S SOOOOOO GOOD with the eggs and meat bits in it!!! :)  We have a thanksgiving dinner provided for us every year at the school we work at and they use the eggs and meat bits (i'm down in Texas) and it's soo good.  My grandma uses the turkey fat and theres pieces of meat in it left over...she cooks the gravy in the pan that the turkey was cooked it...AMAZING!!! :)  She does the same thing with fried chicken...she'll use the left over fat and oil to make to the gravy!  It's the best!

  • Well its not like a thick, creamy gravy, not like a white cream gravy or a thick brown gravy...at least ours isnt...im not sure how they do it, but they use dripings, the gibbletts from the bird and a rue (sp) and then put cut up hard boiled eggs in it...its really good...

  • I like my gravy smooth with no chunks in it.  That being said, I have heard of gravy with meat/sausage in it... but ive never heard of egg.

  • I've never heard of eggs in gravy.  I love hard boiled eggs but think gravy is gross.

My MIL is from an Italian neighborhood on Staten Island and refers to pasta sauce as gravy.  It definitely confused me the first few times I ate at her house!

  • Yes, but only for biscuits and gravy.  Not on potatoes.  It's yummy though.

  • I've never seen it that way! I'd like to try it though - it's probably good.  My grandma does put hard boiled eggs in her stuffing at T-giving, and I put gravy over that.
  • Never
