Are you using the same bedding? I don?t want my second daughter having to use all of her sisters stuff but I just can?t justify not using some of the clothes, etc.
If you are having a same gender second child how much are you buying versus reusing? Thanks!!!
Re: If your second baby is the same gender?
I am absolutely using the same bedding. I started looking for new stuff then realized how silly it was. I just bought DS new bedding when he turned two and was able to buy him stuff I new he'd like. Since I have no idea what this baby will like (sports, trucks, animals, etc) I'll just reuse the generic baby stuff and buy him some new stuff when he's older too.
I plan on using as many clothes over as I can, but I'm sure I'll still end up buying new stuff too!
I'm with you, I need to do a few things different because they're different kids. Clothes, we're totally re-using. For bedding, we never bought a matching set, we just had sheets for awhile, then we did breathable bumpers, then later we switched to cute bumpers from Pottery Barn. We're keeping my older son in a crib for awhile, so we'll get another crib, and I found the cutest jungle theme bedding on sale for $30 (a boutique was closing), so we'll use that for the baby. But even if my older son were in a bed and out of his crib, I'd still buy new bedding for him. I just like the idea of getting excited about the new baby just like we did with my son.
I know it doesn't matter and we don't need to, but there's certain things I want to re-do/re-buy.
We used the same bedding for DD#2. But we did put up new curtains in her room (I had moved DD#1's curtains to her big girl room). I had wanted to buying new bedding for DD#2 because I wanted her to have her own look but in the end I couldn't justify the additional cost when DD#1's bedding was in great shape. If this one is a girl, we'll probably reuse it again.
I've used almost all the same things that were DD#1 for DD#2; however, because they were born opposite seasons, I did have to buy a lot of new clothes for DD#2 at certain times of the year. But that worked out well anyways, I like DD#2 to still have her own look and not always look like she's wearing DD#1's outfit.
I had all of Lily's bedding sent off to make a quilt for her new big girl bed, so we are buying new. We will also have to buy some clothes since the girls birth dates are in two different seasons. I have already given most of Lily's newborn clothes to a friend who had a summer baby.
I think I am going to buy a new boppy and we will have to purchase a few things that wore out with Lily (like our diaper genie), but most of the big stuff and a lot of the clothes (which were actually hand-me-downs in the first place) can be resused.
I bought gender neutral mint and brown bedding for #1 with the intention of re-using no matter the sex of #2. But since we were blessed with #2 so soon and we have enough other projects going on in our house (completely redoing our 2nd bathroom, right now it is down to a bare floor and new drywall, it needs painted, lighting installed, floor tiled, and toilet and sink installed. The toilet, sink, medicine cabinet, and lights are all sitting in our guestroom where we want to move our office furniture into to be able to make the office into #2's bedroom! The first crib bedding will fit the toddler bed we're going to switch my son to so we can reuse the crib, and his room is totally decorated to match the bedding, so it will just be so much easier for me to start fresh and not have to redo his room, too.

yes, and so was my third and now my fourth...
We used the same bedding for 1, 2 and 3...but I am so sick of it, I am getting new bedding for #4. Part of the reason for that though is because we have a round crib, so bedding includes the draperies on the side of the crib and such and usually costs over $1k. But instead of buying new round crib bedding, I am just buying a new regular crib- not using the round one- that turns into a full sized bed and with the bedding it will still be under $1k...
Hah, mine will be using the same bedding, clothing, toys, etc whether they are the same gender or not. I come from a family of 6 kids and was lucky to get my sister's hand-me-downs. They were much better than my brother's hand me downs I had to wear.
I don't see why it would be a big deal.
For DD1 we bought a convertable crib and had always planned that we would turn it into a toddler bed, and later into a twin bed with the headboard and footboard. She also got the matching dresser so she would have a "big girl" set of furniture. For DD2, we bought her a new convertable crib and matching dresser.
We re-used many of the clothes, the baby bath, the diaper genie, changing pad and covers, boppy, bumbo seat, stroller, infant carrier/travel system, high chair, and pack and play. There didn't seem to be any justifiable reason to buy those new. We did buy some new clothes and also bought new bottles, pacifiers, etc.
I will definitely use the same bedding. It's still in great shape and is so cute. We are moving DD to a big girl room this winter and I would much rather spend money on decorating a room they will be in for a longer time frame. Our nursery furniture is a convertible crib and two large dressers. When our youngest child is ready to outgrow the nursery, we will turn the room into a big kid room. We want to have 4 kids so as each one outgrows the nursery we will move them to a big kid room.
As for the other stuff, we will reuse the bumbo, bouncy seat, bath tub, swing and jumperoo. I will try to reuse DD1's clothes but they will be born in completely different seasons so I don't know if a lot will work. We will definitely need another high chair though.
I don't know what this one is yet but if it's another boy I am going to reuse most stuff. I might buy a couple of new sheets because those are probably getting worn after 2 years but not a whole new set.
We are going to resuse as many clothes as we can but since they are opposite seasons we may have to buy some new stuff.
I'm not using the same bedding .... but I"m not really using any bedding. I'm just getting a breathable bumper and 2 new crib sheets.
I'm also reusing all clothes (they will be born around the same time), but I did still buy a few new outfits.
Reusing all equipment too.
If I have the same 3rd gender...haha....(well my first is 9 so I didn't save anything from him) I'm definitely using all my last lo's stuff. He's only 10 months old and half of his stuff still looks brand new (except for the 9 month carter stuff because he started feeding himself...yuck).
It's a GIRL!
No, we are getting new bedding from PBK. My son's bedding was sports theme and faded/bled easily and since this baby and my DS will share a room I want bedding that coordinates, and my son's bedding is from PBK so the sheets will not match but will go together.
I'd do the same even if they didn't have to share a room because I don't like the bedding that much anymore, so I like having a good excuse to buy new!
Pretty much this for me too. I have a son, and even if this baby is a girl, I'll use a lot of his stuff too. My niece actually LOVED hand-me-downs from her brother when she was little:) My son's bedding was like Tiffany blue. I think it's a great color for girls too.
Proud mother of two breech babies:)

We'll reuse clothes and baby gear, for sure, but I was planning on getting new bedding.
DS's bumper drove me insane with all of its ties - but maybe we'll go the route that a lot of people do and just buy a few new pieces - bumper, sheets, etc.
We live in a house now (lived in an apartment when DS was born) so we get to paint and hang nice curtains and all that - so while I don't plan to go *too* overboard, I do plan to buy some new stuff for the nursery!
And I feel I can justify it a bit since now that it's another boy, that's way fewer new clothes we have to buy.
I had gender neutral bedding for our son and I'm using it for our daughter too. I'm going to get a new crib skirt and sheets because his are more masculine than I want now. I went through the toys and got rid of the ones I didn't like or DS didn't like and will buy her a few new ones. We have to get all new clothes obviously.
If I were having another boy I think I would still use the same bedding, just switch up a few throw pillows or do a new mobile.
My kids will be 20 months apart and will share a room for a bit while we save the cash for a house. Regardless of sex, I think I will buy something that coordinates with my older DD's bedding, since she will still need her's when she goes into a toddler bed.
Thankfully, her bedding is shabby chic with blue in it, so if it does end up being a boy, I can buy blue things and have them look good together.
I don't know what sex this child will be but if it is another girl, we will be resuing everything but bedding. I will likely use DD's bedding (solid color sheets, etc) but not the "bird theme" sheets. DD is staying in her room with the current decor (that matches bedding).
Even if we have a boy, I am going to take up my friends on their offers of their DS wardrobes. So this next child will have mostly hand me down clothes no matter sex. Of course, we will end up buying some new clothing as we go along since shopping for them is so much fun!
I might get some different sheets. I wonder how difficult it will be for DS to see the new baby (DS2) using everything that WAS his. We are going to be moving him into his new bedroom about 2-3 months before DS2 is born so hopefully that helps. PLus most of the wall hangings in his bedroom now will go into his room.
Clothes, shoes, blankets, towels will all be reused.
I am ...my dd never slept in her crib so at least i will get some use out of it.
