Our cat (4yrs old) was never declawed. The only thing she scratches on is our cupboards-one in the kitchen and one we have in our back room. It has never bothered me because you can't really see it, but with moving into a new house, I don't want her ripping our new cupboards to shreds. I tried (awhile ago) buying one of those cardboard scratchers that you lie on the floor-she won't touch it. So today I bought one that is sort of tall (when she scratches, she stands up and stretches out tall) and has a combo of carpet and rope. Just curious-what do cats prefer to scratch-carpet, rope, cardboard? Or is it a "personal preference"? And.....if I can't get her to use the dumb thing, how can I get her to not scratch the cupboards? When she does it, we move her away, but it doesnt help at all.

My crew love the cardboard ones (we have one on an incline too) and rope....dh built a big tower with a tall rope covered part.....they shred it to nothing! I have one who likes wood and has dug at our bed, I had to cover that side with the bed skirt.
I would try spraying her with a water bottle when she starts to scratch the cupboard, have a scratcher near by too....she may just have to break the habit before she finds a new place.
Yay for no declaw!
We tried this when she was younger and she didn't flinch at the water-would just look at you and continue scratching!
haha.....did you use a strong stream and get her or just a mist? I love "Catitude"...even when naughty they crack me up!
