I'm going in early Nov for a book signing/show and to visit my littlest bro at college. I'll be staying right downtown. I've been before, but didn't spend much time in actual Portland. What should I do? Eat? See? Drink at?
The 23rd district is a fav of mine. Fun shops and tons of good restaurants and bars. You definitely have to hit up Papa Hadyns for dessert ( Thera one on 23rd). And don't forget Voodoo doughnuts. Not sure if it's still running, but the Saturday market is always fun. The rose gardens up by the zoo have some amazing views of the city. Oh, and if you like books, Powells bookstore is a fun place to explore. Have fun!
I agree with the 23rd district... we lived there for a few months and that was my favorite area! It's right by Washington Park and the Rose Gardens too!

DH loves Rogue Public Ale House - they are his favorite beer. They have a small distillery there and we went on a tour which was interesting (and they provide samples of free booze.) Not sure if they do the tour on the weekends - check their website. Also if you are into history, the Pittock Mansion is neat (and a good view). And if you can deal with the lines, Voodoo Donuts is amazing!

The Bakery Caldwell posted the link to was an excellent little breakfast place/french bakery. Their eclairs were to die for! We didn't really do much exploring. We stayed at Edgefield in Troutdale which is 15-20 mins outside of the city. Really a fun little place. I wish we hit up a food truck or two. Oh, and Stumptown coffee roasters have the best coffee on the planet. The original one is in Portland. Shane's boss also said Ascholl's Pizza is the best pizza but get there early.

Re: Portland...
I agree with the others. I love this bakery, they have on in the 23rd area. And Ken's Artisan Pizza is really good, small rustic place.
I know Tracy was just down there, she might have some fun ideas too. What college does your brother go to?
He's at his first year at University of Portland. Ripping it up and totally forgetting he has a family...ha!
Thanks ladies! Should be a good time!!
I agree w/ the PP, Voodoo Doughnuts is a must. Their bacon maple bar is yummy! I also had one with crushed Oreos.
If you're into sewing check out Fabric Depot. Huge store w/ lots and lots of fabric.
