Name you don't really hear..

My bffs mom's name is Kemper Peacock 

She comes from an upper class southern Georgia family

Never thought anything of it growing up, but now that I'm studying names for LO, I stop and think about names in a whole new way..

 

Love it or hate it? Ever heard it?

    I don't really like Kemper. And I've never heard of that.

    I highly doubt anyone has ever heard the name Kemper Peacock.

    Started TTC 2/2009
    Started fertility treatments 11/2010
    Ovarian dysfunction, LPD, male factor
    6 failed medicated IUI's
    Pregnant 5/2011 - Miscarriage at 6 weeks due to triploidy
    Decided to adopt - 6/2012
    SURPRISE! Pregnant without intervention - 7/2012 
    Sweet Baby James Born 3/2013
    Decided to be "One and Done"

    ....OR NOT.
    Pregnant 12/2018 despite birth control pills
    Here we go again...
    Due 8/26/19!

    I've only heard of Kemper Arena, a sporting complex here in KC...

    I just think of Ellie Kemper, who is on The Office.

    Don't like it at all for a 1st name, especially for a woman, weird IMO.

    I hate LNs as girl FNs.  Peacock is strange but I could live with it as a MN.

    This is crazy...we call this baby "Peacock" b/c when we asked LO what we should the baby, he said, "Peacock!"  Never considered using it for real, though!

    Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!

    Peacock sounds like a family name, as in last-name-used-as-middle-name. I'm not a fan of it as a name if there's no connection like this, especially as the word for peacock was slang for someone really vain where I used to live in Brazil.

    Kemper is NMS at all and doesn't sound even vaguely appealing. But I feel bad dissing an actual person's name.

    The only time I've heard Kemper was as a character in the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie with Jessica Biel.  He was her character's boyfriend.

    I don't mind it on a boy, but don't like it for a girl.  Considering what you mentioned about her background, I would guess both names are family names.

    It makes me laugh. Don't love it or hate it because it hardly sounds like a name for a person.

    Her background doesn't surprise me. It seems like a lot of affluent families in the south use family surnames as first names.

    This! Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the only place I ever heard it. I kinda like it though.

    I actually don't HATE it.... but would defintiely drop the "Peacock" part :)

    Kemper makes me think of the serial killer (which is where Texas Chainsaw Massacre picked the name).  Not an association I'd want to give a child.

    I think Kemper is a name of some dog show on spout... But kemper peacock! Wow... never heard of it. And far from love it!
