Potty trained question

R has been trained since she was 2ish so we don't really have accidents anymore. However all of a sudden she is having accidents every.single.day. and its not just a little bit these are big accidents. She is going to the doctor at 1 to rule out a UTI. She has a family history of kidney problems and this is when it came out with her cousin so I'm really hoping its not that. Or is this something normal that happens sometimes?

Thanks

Re: Potty trained question

  • DD has been pt since she was 2 as well.  She periodically goes through the same thing.  We just start back at the basics again.  Take her potty every hour, stickers and encouragement for dry panties, etc.  Usually after a day or two of that we are back to normal.  We also do not call them accidents, she knows when she has to go potty and can control it so we call them on purposes.  We don't punish her for her "on purposes" but let her know we are disappointed that she didn't make it to the potty on time.

A side note about the Dr. - we did the same thing and the office had us try to get her to potty in a cup vs. catheterizing her.  While it was messy with the cup, it was much better than the alternative.  So, if you have a choice try the cup first!

  • Ugghh, I was just coming on to ask. Josie has been pt'd for over a year and she had her first accident at school this morning and another one just now, at home. I am pretty sure she is trying to hold it in rather than quit playing and go to the bathroom. It is hard not to be upset with her, especially when she is acting like it is not a big deal. Should I be concerned for a UTI? I was just thinking "holding it" is a normal toddler thing...

  • fwiw, when I took DD in thinking it may be an iui she tested clear and the doc seemed to think it was quite normal.

  • They have a toilet hat she peed in. No UTI we are treating for constipation which could be causing some bladder problems.
