Greenbriar OBGYN ladies

Did anybody have a non-medicated delivery with Greenbriar? I don't remember them talking to me a lot about it before DS, I knew I wanted an epidural.  I had one  and he had an awful heartrate drop, that scared me to death. I've gone back and forth since then about whether or not I'd have an epidural again. There were certain factors involved that lead to the drop that could probably be avoided this time, but ugh, it was scary.

I don't want to change docs, but just curious if anybody went natural with them and how supportive they were of it. In the end it is certainly my decision, not theirs, but just wondering about others experiences with them.

Re: Greenbriar OBGYN ladies

  • I had an epi with them too but they seemed to be very open to what I wanted in terms of everything I had going on.  Dr W wanted to do a c/s bc DS was going to be big, and Dr G and Dr P asked if i watned to be induced or just wait it out.  I chose the induction and then I remember when getting my epi Dr P said somethign along the lines of they were made to help you and most of my patients get one but not all.....

this doesn't help much, I have not seen the new dr there.  I have been with them for many years and through 2 D&C's also...they have been very much patient advocates, adn just last month i wanted bloodwork after my 2nd m/c and they sent me for it, no questions asked.....

    good luck!!

  • I have not, but I had planned to with DD1. Dr W questioned why I would want to do that (it's painful you know!), but I ignored him.  Drs P and G were definitely on board for no intereventions unless medically necessary.  At the time FO had telemetry monitoring, but I don't think they do now.  I was ultimately induced (at my request) because I was overdue and suffering from a really bad case of PUPP.  Dr P tried to talk me out of the induction because I had been against it all along, but I was determined to have it.  Dr P did my cervidil insert, but the shift changed while I was being monitored and Dr G came on.  I pretty much went in to labor at that point and wanted to be admited, but she told me to, essentially, suck it up and go home if I wanted to proceed pain med-free.  I ultimately needed a section because DD1s head was just too big for my body (I'm only 5'1").

With DD2 I was just hoping for a VBAC, so I wasn't as focused on pain-med free (can't be induced for a VBAC). Again, Dr W questioned why I would want a VBAC since I am almost certain DD2 is our last, but Drs G and P were on board.  Dr G was the one who finally agreed to let me go up to two weeks past my EDD (I think their standard for a VBAC is 1 week.  I had to agree to additional bio-physicals, extra checkups, etc.).  I only saw Dr S twice with DD2 because she came on towards the end of my preganancy.  She was on call when I went in to labor.  When I got to the hospital I was already 5-6 cm.  She suggested I get the epi, but I didn't want to for fear of stalling.  She looked me dead in the face and told me there was no way I was going to stall (I could barely talk and could not walk at all, I was in that much pain).  For some reason I believed her, so I got it about an hour later.  It was a good thing because DD2 was 9 lb 6 oz and I don't think I would have achieved the VBAC without the epi.  She was amazing during the delivery.  I had two pushing efforts and never once did she suggest that we go to a section.  I also had the epi turned off after the first effort so I could feel/move a lot more the second go around and she was totally cool with it.

That was a long way of saying, yes, they are on board.  Be your own advocate, but I seriously doubt they will give you a hard time.  If I recall correctly, Dr G had both her kids med-free and Dr P tried, but ended up with a section.  Dr W will probably try to talk you out of it.  Dr S doesn't have any kids.  She is now my favorite doc in the practice.  I love her - she was that awesome during delivery.

  • Thanks ladies! Good to know that once I figure out what exactly I want to do (um, soon hopefully!) they will work with me, and a good reminder to advocte for myself!
