Hi again,
Because my GI specialist failed to return my call today (grrrr) and I'm super impatient, I thought I'd ask you guys: is it normal for mucous to go away for a few days/week and then reappear on the Neocate? Does that mean something is still irritating my MPSI little one? He is ONLY on Neocate right now and has been for 12 days. His diapers are disgusting!
Diaper was positive today for blood, but my pediatrician of course said, "It takes time to heal..." yada yada yada.
Just ready for some answers after this 14 day Neocate trial is done. He still is only eating 20-22 ounces each day. (he's 9 weeks old, weighs 13 pounds, 24.5 inches long)
Thanks!
Re: Another Neocate/Stool Question
it sometimes does take over 2 weeks for dairy/soy to leave the system so maybe wait a few more days. Was it a lot of blood?
I don't think it has anything to do with healing, but rather dairy/soy leaving the system completely. What was she on before Neocate?
I'm sure other mom's will have more to say on this since i never put my LO on Neocate but i know it sometimes takes a long time for the allergen to leave the system
The nurse just said it wasn't an alarming amount but it was there. I asked if there was any way to compare it to the last diaper two weeks ago and she said no, so I have no idea if he'd made any improvement on that front or not.
Before Neocate we were breastfeeding - I'm an exclusive pumper - and doc felt like we should do ONLY Neocate for two weeks to get to a clean slate. I've been dairy/soy free for almost two weeks.
The plan was to challenge with a breastmilk bottle on Friday, but he still has symptoms so I'm not sure how effectively I can determine his reaction. He still fusses and screeches and arches during some of our feeds and during his fussy feeds he doesn't want me to touch his tummy. Plus with the blood/mucous still there, I feel like he needs to totally heal before we try breastmilk. I don't know, I'm totally clueless and my GI doc is so unresponsive.
maybe go see an allergist?
i agree.. i wouldn't test him until you don't see blood for at least a week or two.
Blood in diaper should be alarming. at any amount.
Make sure you also eliminate casein and whey from your diet. It's a cows milk protein and sometimes it's not labeled correctly.
