Parenting after 35

butt cream for sensitive hineys...

My LO has super sensitive skin - we cloth diaper not only by choice but because disposables give him a rash pretty quickly.  Now he's in daycare from 8-5 and they're willing to use cloth.  He arrives with no rash, by lunch when my DH goes in and hangs out he's got a rash.  We usually give him a shower and let him air dry when he gets home and the rash gets better pretty quick.  By morning he's rash-free (or nearly so) again.  they use our wipes at daycare but they're using A&D ointment to help with the rash - I'm convinced that may be the culprit (or maybe because he's in a swing with the diaper pushed up against him - is that even possible?!)

so what I need is a suggestion for a cloth friendly, sensitive skin friendly butt cream for them to use.

Re: butt cream for sensitive hineys...

  • Beudreaux's Butt Paste.  My Brother and SIL swore by it.l

Also, it could be a yeast infection rather than diaper rash.

Is he allergic to the detergent that you use to wash the diapers in?  It could be that the wet diaper is causing the detergent left in the diaper to be released and his little bottom is reacting to that.

  • We don't have that bad diaper rush, but I think mainly because  are cloth diapering from the beginning. However, when we go somewhere it is easier to deal with disposables and we use them. After a day, Ian gets rush. We use CA baby diaper rush cream and it seems to help immediately. I don't know if that would work for your bebe, but you may wanna try it.

  • We use CA Baby diaper rash cream.  My DS#1 has very sensitive skin and it works well for him.  DS#2 got a bad diaper rash and we used it on him and it worked well.

  • Try triple paste.  DS is super sensitive too and Boudreaux's made him break out.

  • I also swear by Triple paste to heal bad diaper rash and provide a good barrier. Second choice us Aquaphor. I never had any luck with A &D and it seemed to sting my DS's butt.
  • we sent a few of our pre-folds (vs. AIO's) yesterday and the culprit is the diapers - so now I'll research how to strip them and see if there's something in the diaper irritating him or if it's just the texture (they're rougher than the Motherease diapers we use at home).  The daycare is willing to try the MotherEase diapers even though they're an extra step (I was trying to keep it super simple since they were being accomodating about the cloth in the first place).

Thank you everyone for the suggestions - I will be trying some of them in case rashes come up in the future (they will - this poor baby has my super sensitive skin...)

  • I swear by Desitin.  The only time DS had a rash issue is when he started eating solids.  He would get a little rash when he pooped and Desitin cleared it right up.  Also, my friends kids had bad rashes that were yeast infections and she use athlete foot/jock itch medicine-not sure how old your LO is, hers were older infants when she did this.

  • DS never had a huge diaper rash problem, but Boudreaux's Butt Paste and a bath in Burt's Bees Milk Bath did wonders when he did get a bit sore.
  • It's really expensive, but I swear Triple Paste is the best.  Good luck!

  • Update - I sent the pre-folds that we use at home and no rash...so it's the diapers themselves.  So I spent the weekend striping them - I sent a couple today to see how it goes.  It could be a texture thing too - who knows, this baby has some seriously sensitive skin!
