I got one this past August and it was a waste of money for the stroller to me because I just brought a cheap parachute stroller. The carseat bag was nice because it kept everything nice just incase they threw it around too much:) The storller gate check bag is not required atleast that was what SW told me after I already got there and had it
we put our car seat in one and it always comes back really filthy (and 2 giant rips in the bag last time), so i'm glad we do it.
we
don't put our stroller in one (we have a city mini and i don't *think*
those red cheap gate check bags will work for it), and it was fine the
last time we flew. the first time, we flew with our snap and go and
they bent the frame so that it wouldn't 'snap n go' anymore. royally
pissed me off. no idea if it would or would not have happened if it had
been in a bag, but since it was cheap, i didn't care THAT much.

Thanks! We have the city mini also. I will get one for the carseat at least and see if it will fit the stroller, if not I won't worry about it.
For us, it depends on the time of year and where we are going. When we fly to Buffalo in winter, covering is a must. We actually use our carseats on the plane, so that is not usually an issue. But when we check a stroller, we don't want to to come back to us covered in salty snow sludge. It has to go from the gate to the plane and back again. If it's gross outside, stuff can and will get gross. Think of how your luggage comes back sometimes! They're supposed to have bags that you can use but it seems like nobody can ever find one when you really need it! If you're not picky about smudges of random dirt and other crap on your baby gear than it's probably not an issue. I'm a bit OCD about stuff like that so cover it is. I've heard that an extra large plastic gift bag from Party City etc will do the trick!

Do you know if they can be purchased locally?
The carseat gatecheck back WILL fit the city mini. I have one and wouldn't travel without it. Each time, like MrsPurdue, the bag is nasty and has a couple of holes. I'd be p!ssed if my stoller got damaged.
We're now traveling with a convertible seat too, so I bought a Brica carseat bag which has backpack straps and wheels. It's made traveling SO much easier. They sell both at Buy Buy baby.
yep, BBB has them and BRU usually does too, near the carseat/stroller accessories.
good to know that the carseat bag will fit the city mini! I hadn't really thought of trying that bag - just the stroller bag, which didn't seem like it would work. duh!
