So DH has given DD#1 (3 years old) gum a few times. She chews it just fine for a while and then forgets about it, goes to eat or drink something and swallows it. I think she is too young for gum if she is swallowing it (even accidentally). And I don't see why she needs to chew it anyway...what do others do with gum chewing?
Re: Age for gum chewing?
we haven't given DD any yet (almost 3) but I asked my friend who has older kids; she said her first chewed it at 5 and her 2nd (seeing his older brother and wanting it), at 4.
DD1 9.24.06
DS 7.1.08

DD2 4.7.12
My older kids didn't have it until about 5 and I would have preferred to have waited longer-they found some in my bag and started chewing it. It was all downhill from there. At 5 DD#2 was old enough to not swallow it, however, she was not old enough to get rid of it properly. I found gum in many unexpected places.
Now they're 8 and 6 and I have no problem with gum as a treat every once in a while.
