I found a lot of comfort and support from our discussion last wednesday, so I thought I would check in again. How is the diet going for you? Is there anything about GD that you are finding to be a positive thing?
The diet is going well except for a few glitches with breakfast. Anytime I try to deviate from my eggs and half a whole wheat tortilla with melted peanut butter, my blood sugar spikes. Hopefully I can last 6 weeks more with this breakfast, or find at least 1 more suitable option.
On the positive end of things, I am staying way more hydrated than I was pre-GD. I also have a lot more energy because I am eating snacks between meals.
I missed last Wednesday's check-in but would love to participate. I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks and have been exercise and diet controlled. At my last OB appt my doctor cut my blood sugar testing back from 4 times per day to 2 times per day which felt like a real win. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to make it from here on out without having to go on any meds. I'm been really strict with the diet and have been walking a mile 2 x per day since diagnosed and it really seems to be working.
The biggest positive for me is it definitely has controlled my weight gain. At 28 weeks I'd gained 11 lbs. I've since lost 5 of that leaving my total pregnancy weight gain at 6 lbs at nearly 35 weeks. Baby is measuring perfectly. I think having to really watch what I eat and the exercising has also helped keep my blood pressure in line and minimized any swelling.
I will say the down side for me is I have to eat 6 x a day and most of the time I have no appetite so it feels like force feeding.

sccalia - I have had good luck with occasionally having Special K Protein Plus cereal (1 cup) plus 100 calorie pack of cocoa roasted almonds crushed on top and 1% milk for breakfast. Another breakfast I've tried this week that seems to be working is Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup of oats and 1/4 blueberries and cocoa almonds stirred in.

This isn't something that's happened yet this pregnancy, but I'm hoping it will. I had GD with DD and the baby weight came right off and then some. I don't know if it had anything to do with what I was eating, but that didn't happen with DS1, so I'm hoping it will happen again this time.

I didn't participate last week either, but a positive has been finding the "diabetic" pasta from Dreamfields. It's a little more expensive, but so worth it to be able to eat a little more of the food I love. Also, I found I can eat two grilled cheese sandwiches (which I have been craving) with whole wheat for dinner and not have it spike my sugar!

I have had really good luck with eggo whole wheat eggos with nutrigrain and peanut butter.. you could try that!
My GD is diet controlled and it's going great. My fasting numbers have also dropped from around 90 to the mid 70's. Not sure what that's about. My go-to favorite is peanut butter toast with milk. I cannot get enough of it for some reason. I'm also loving cheeseburgers! I'll order one out at a restaurant and take the top of the bun off and eat the rest with a side salad. My numbers have been great! I also switched from skim milk to 2% and it's made all the difference in my mood. A diet with no fat can make you so moody and once I reintroduced the 2% milk I have noticed a huge difference, and my b/s numbers are great with it!
Mama2Be - I've had the same thing happen with my numbers. They went up a little around 32-33 weeks and then dropped the last week or so. I asked my OB about it and he said that a lot of time close to the end of pregnancy the placenta is not producing so many hormones.
I also second the idea about eating enough fat. I have 100 calorie packs of almonds at least 2 x per day and it helps both my bs and my mood. And peanut butter is definitely my friend.

I did participate last week but would love to join in this week. I was just diagnoised 2 weeks ago at 31 weeks and just met with my nutritionist yesterday. So far my numbers have been where they should be so thats good. I was really upset at first but i am just glad to have my meter now and a diet to follow so i know whats going on with my body. i know the next few weeks will be trial and error and what spikes my sugars and what doesn't. I have found this board and the high risk board so helpful and am so lucky to have you ladies. I am praying i can keep this controlled by diet and excercise. My nutritionist mentioned that i didn't fail by much so she doesn't think ill have a problem being diet controlled. lets hope shes right!! hope everyone is having a great week
Re: GD Mommas
I suppose I should respond to my own questions.
