exercise poll

now that we're all in our 3rd trimester, i'm wondering what everyone's weekly exercise routine is?

i try to swim for 30 minutes twice a week and do some form of strengthening class or video once or twice a week.

working out helps me with soreness issues.  and on the evenings that i swim, i sleep like a rock and never get up once during the night.  i hate working out and actually getting to the gym is a fight, but i always feel great afterward.

Re: exercise poll

  • I try to walk everyday. That's about all I can manage. LO is sitting really low giving me horrible pelvic pressure, and even just going for a walk or grocery shopping makes me start cramping really bad no matter how much water i'm drinking. I will be glad when I can do a little more than that again.

  • Walking 5-6 miles/day, either pushing LO up and down hills or wearing him on my back (he's about 28 lbs). Not a ton, but I also do all the home stuff here-raking, gardening, etc..which does add up through the week

  • The last 4 weeks I've taken a pre-natal yoga class once a week and then I'll try to do a pre-natal pilates video at home another  2 days/week. I also try to get a good long walk in w/MH about 1-2x/week.

  • I try to get to the gym in the morning before work.  If I don't go in the morning...I end up making excuses and I don't go.  Embarrassed  I usually do the elliptical, bike, or treadmill.  I know I should do some strength stuff too, but that doesn't seem to happen.

This is me too. I try to walk but I have bad pelvic pain. :(

  • I've been managing 3-4 runns/week, total of between 15-20 miles.  I am really slow and take a lot of walk breaks as well. I do some light lifting at least once a week, and maybe a bike ride or two with DH and DS. We're a really active family and I feel that it's helped throughout this pregnancy a lot.

  • I teach a lab, so I spend a lot of time outside walking anyway...

But, DH and I walk outside for ~45 minutes most nights. At least 2 nights a week, we walk longer (about 3.5 miles) and then we go hiking on weekends.

And I stretch most nights to help with my sore muscles.

  • I post a daily workout check-in (didn't yesterday though) and a weekend check-in.  You can look there for ideas.

That reminds me, I need to post today's!

  •  I have to admit that I haven't been so good with keeping up with exercising in the last few weeks  Embarrassed

During the 1st 2 trimesters I routinely went to the gym 2-3 times a week...now I'm lucky if I go 1-2 LoL not because I'm in pain or anything...I just feel more lazy/more tired lately. I think it's due to the lack of sleep I'm now getting Sad (waking up every 2 hours at night for some reason, tossing and turning and having to use the bathroom...booooo!)

When I DO go to the gym...I try to  walk briskly at a slight incline for 20-30 mins, and then I usually do leg stuff (stationary bike, transverse adductions and abductions, etc..). If I have time and the machines are open, I work out my back muscles with light weights (which feels FABULOUS btw...stretches my achy back out out and also shapes my arm muscles)...examples below:

I love doing seated rows (https://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/BackGeneral/CBSeatedRow.html)

and a rear pull down (again, really light weight only)  (https://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/LatissimusDorsi/CBRearPulldown.html)

That's my routine...it takes about an 40-60 mins depending on how much time I spend walking and biking.

I plan to hit the gym tonight after work since I haven't gone since last week. Wish me luck actually getting out there ;) hahaha

  • I try to take at least a 30 minutes walk and lift arm weights 3-4 times a week.

The last few weeks I have been slacking because I ended up with a nasty bladder infection but today was my first day back on track.

  • I try to walk when I can - usually 2-3 miles at a time, but honestly its not that frequent!

I might go to a Prenantal yoga class this weekend.  I did that when I was pg with DD and loved it.

  • Glad I'm not the only one!! It's about all  I can to do to walk our 2 dogs and keep up on the housework and both are becoming increasingly more difficult to do!!

    what's exercise?

    Haha this.

Being on restrictive duty, well basically bed rest the first 3.5 months due to my heart issues really screwed up my exercise routine and I've struggled to get back into it.

I try to walk a couple of times a week but being I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now (only 7.5 weeks-ish) I mainly just can't wait to get back into running, etc again.

  • Mon and Frid - Strong (weight lifting class - I used to take a Wednesday class too but it was getting too tough with all the getting up and down off the floor so I quit this week)

Tues, and Thur - Cardio (typically eliptical machine)

Wed - Cardio until I figure out something to take the place of my class, I may start water aerobics.

I also walk the dog every night around our neighborhood (about .6 mile)

  • I've realized I really need to be walking and such to get ready for labor and today tried a prenatal yoga DVD (never done yoga before, more of a pilates fan) and I couldn't do it. I felt like such a weakling and am so worried I won't have the stamina for labor & delivery that I need. Guess I just have to keep after it and slowly build some endurance with walking and the yoga. Definitely wishing that I hadn't let the nonstop morning sickness get me off track in the first trimester since I never really got back on track.

  • We have a walking incentive program through work and I still get rewarded if I walk an average of a little over 3 miles a day.  Usually I can get in 1 and a half before "working out" pretty easy...so I try to average at least a 1 mile and a half walking or on the elliptical.

  • For those that cannot/dislike exercise at least try prenatal yoga!  I do it once a week and it is so helpful; not only do I feel stronger and more prepared, but my instructor is a doula as well and so the whole class is super informative and I feel like I am learning good exercises for how to get the baby out naturally.

Aside from my once a week prenatal I walk and I run (I have wanted to start swimming but dont have a maternity suit and feel wierd going to the pool in my bikini).  My husband wont let me bike - haha.

I do think staying active has kept me sane, in shape, and healthy for this pregnancy!
