So I've had three ultrasounds so far - one very early at 6 weeks, then one at 9 weeks I think because we couldn't date the baby at the earlier one, and then one at 20. I've got 3 appointments scheduled - 1 for next week and then 2 in November.
How many ultrasounds should I expect in the future, any? Are there any milestones? I plan on calling doctor to ask, but don't have my phone on me today, so figured I'd ask here first..
Re: Which appointments are ultrasounds?
Most health pregnancies only get the one around 20 weeks.
They may or may not decide to do an u/s closer to your due date if they want to check the size and position of the baby. The sizing off of these is not very accurate at that point though. Some physicians just use their hands to feel around (on top of your belly).
Depends on your Dr. - - - my OB only did my initial U/S to make sure I was pregnant (at 8wks)...then scheduled me for a routine one at 20wks (found out gender).....that is all I'm getting (that I am aware of)....because of insurance
I know some OBs do u/s every visit....or every few visits.....I WISH my OB would have done this.... ;(
If you are having issues during your pregnancy, they do more u/s to make sure you and baby are on track and are okay. My cousin gets one every appt (she's high risk though), and a friend of mine gets one every 2-3 appts or so (not routine- just because her OB doesn't mind doing it for fun).....
I went an had a 3d u/s done electively at 27 weeks..but I had to do research and find an office that could do it and wasn't too pricey. I did end up finding one I loved, and I'm really happy that I went ahead and paid for an extra u/s
