Food Allergy

Have you been to a naturopath?

I'm normally not very alternative when it comes to medicine. However, both my kids seem to have some intolerances, and to what, I don't know. DS has chronic sinus infections that he just can't kick. DD was diagnosed MSPI, and she still exhibits some GI symtpoms when she ingests certain foods.

Both kids have had a skin prick test done at a pediatric allergist. Everything came back as negative, which I think means they don't have any allergies, but they could have intolerances, right? Has anyone had testing done at a naturopathic doctor for food intolerances? What did it look like? How much did it cost?

I think I'm looking into some alternative stuff because we are facing adenoid surgery with DS. We tried eliminating dairy for a month, but it didn't seem to change anything. He was the picture of health for the first 18 months of his life, and then the infections started. With DD, we've taken her to a chiropractor a while back when she had recurring ear infections, but it really didn't seem to help anything. She still ended up getting ear tubes.

  • I would do a RAST (blood) test on both of them for the top 8 and dogs/cats and what ever else they can throw in there.  There is something that is bothering them and a blood test is the way to find out.

if you already eliminated dairy.. try dairy and soy together.

maybe put him on a strict vegan diet.  I like https://www.drmcdougall.com/index.html but haven't tried his approach yet. I'm already a vegetarian so I'm half way there.

Also... Here is a friends story.. regarding ear tubes. One of my friends sons was having terrible ear infections.. one after the other. Always sick. (i think it started at around 2 y/o).. He was also having development issues.. after changing doctors 2 times, they finally found a doctor that just started doing tests after tests..  and found out that he is allergic to milk/soy (showed up only in blood test), but it's not the same allergy as my son.. it was a gut allergy (it was creating fungus in his gut.. so he had to be /and still is/ on heavy medication to take the fungus out of his gut)..  They also found out he has Lyme disease (they still don't know when he got it but it must have been at least over a year). The Lyme disease caused major development issues and he sometimes acts like he has autism, but it's not autism.  Both, the allergy and lyme disease have caused him to have terrible ear infections and he had ear tubes put in initially.. but still got infections.. it was until they started healing his gut and the Lyme disease is when they stopped getting ear infections. They aren't sure if it's the allergy or the disease that caused ear infections since they started healing both at the same time. But the point of the story is, they may possibly need ear tubes but it may be something else (as you know) so have your doc test him and keep checking for other things.

Thanks for the info. Going vegan is not an option at all for us right now, but I appreciate your input. DS is already a picky eater, and I've been working with a nutritionist to increase his intake of dairy/protein, so going vegan would kind of be the opposite direction.

DD's infections happened when she was 3-4 months old, so the only thing she was ingesting was hypoallergenic formula.
