Help, I need an excuse to leave work early!

Nothing can be more annoying than trying to hide that I'm only 7 weeks pregnant when I have to leave work early multiple times in the same month to go to doctor's appointments.  I've already used the dentist appointment excuse (after calling out sick on the day of my actual dentist appointment.)  My coworkers are nosey, and my husband is a teacher who gets home way before I do it (so I can't really claim I have to meet the cable guy).  Does anyone have any good excuses for me??  Or am I blowing this out of proportion?

  • why so many appts? are you having problems?

i would just say you have a medical issue you have been taking care of - nobody is allowed to ask anything else of you - and if they do just say "it's personal"...

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

Yeah that early in the game I had monthly appointments.  but like the pp said, just say you have a doctor's appointment.  You don't have to get all into details.

  • I would usually just say I had an appointment, but I also understand not wanting to raise an alarm.  Is there anything you can do that would be considered work-related?  Like I'm going to a happy hour with some people in my field for business development purposes?  Or other unrelated ideas which I've used: I have family in town this afternoon, there is a cable/electricity/furniture delivery I need to be home for, I'm visiting a friend in the hospital.  I could go on and on.  I've used them all to avoid suspicion.....

  • Here are some that i've used in the past:

    1) Dentist appointment (you already used)

    2) Doctor's appointment (You don't have to tell them it's a baby doc, DUH, you just say it's your annual physical appointment.

    3) Appointment with: Lawyer (for house stuff, will, etc.), cable guy, utility person, furniture delivery, etc.  (If anyone says "Isn't your husband home at X time for that kind of stuff?" you can say "It's parent teacher night" or "he has a meeting" or whatever).

    4) Not feeling well.  This is hard to pull off but CAN be done.  You begin in the morning by picking your imagined illness.  I usually go with stomach issues of some sort.  No one will ever ask you about diarhea or puke so you're good there.  Use the bathroom A LOT.  Make sure you're noticed going in/out a bunch of times.  Then, a little while before you have to leave say to your boss/supervisor "Ugh, I haven't been feeling well all day.  Is it okay if i finish up such and such project and then take off to go home and get some rest?"

    5) Just got a call from a friend who was in a car accident.  Her car is being towed and she needs to be picked up.

    6) Just got a call from a family member with some emergency.

  • - Pick up someone from the airport

    - Help your family with something?

    - If you have nieces/nephews - that you have to watch them for a few hours until their parents get home?

  • Unless there are issues I am surprised you have even one doctor's appointment at 7 weeks.

    If this isn't MUD, chill.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am

I had multiple appts in the beginning.  I had 5-6 blood draws (I would just go before work), an ob appt, an u/s, and something else, I know I'm missing an appt - I feel like there were a million.

And my husband worked from home, so I couldn't use any type of meeting someone at home excuse.  I used drs appt, DD's drs appt, I think I had an "oil change" one morning.
