NJ Family Leave Insurance

I am a catholic school teacher in the Archdiocese of Newark and was wondering if I am eligible for the NJ family leave insurance (Baby Bond)?  All I get is 6 weeks of disability and need another 5 weeks to bond with my newborn WITH pay!  Apparently my HR person does not know this info and instead of finding out, she me to call the HR person at the Archdiocese of Newark Confused!  Any info would help!

Thanks,

D

Re: NJ Family Leave Insurance

  • I am not sure.  If you google "NJ family leave insurance" it should bring you to the state of NJ site where you can find out more info.

    Good luck!

  • As long as your district is large enough, and has enough employees, you should be eligible for the FLI.  I am trying to figure out if we can collect state disability first and then FLI for bonding.........I am a teacher and will be using 20 sick days which is I guess 4 weeks...so of the 6 weeks allowed for state disability, i wonder how that works

  • Check your paycheck. NJ FLI is one of the deductions on my paycheck by the taxes.

  • I don't see why not. It has nothing to do with the # of people employed there...if you pay into it you are eligible. The # of employees has more to do with whether they need to guarantee your job.

You should get 6 or 8 weeks paid disability plus 6 weeks bonding. Enjoy!

  • So it turns out that Catholic School Teachers are not eligible for Baby Bonding because we do not pay into it.  So now I am wondering who and when is it that i am supposed to call to get FMLA without pay in the state of NJ?  This is soooo confusing and the HR person told me to look online (I would think she should be doing that)!  I am supposed to be going to the doc on Oct 6th which is exactly when my disability ends.
