Anyone have recs for childcare (centers, in-home, nanny, etc) in the East Bay? Preferably in Alameda area (close to my work), I'm also open to anything along the 880 that is easily accessible since it's a part of my daily commute.
Hey C! I'm sure you've thought this out... but just wanted to add from my experience. We picked a DC close to our home (instead of work) so that both my DH and I could be involved with pick ups/drop offs. DH works schedule recently change and I'm currently both pick ups and drop offs... and its tough! Also, I know that some of my working mom friends have a hard time with DCs being close to their work - when they get sick. If you're sick in bed, and can't get to work (aka, can't take DC to DC), DC has to stay home with you. Anyway... just thought I'd share a little experience.

i've done both - close to home (which did come in handy once) and close to work. in the end i prefer close to work (although for me close to work is 1/2 between home and work). i liked being THAT accessible to dd when she was really young and now that she's older, it's handy in case she gets sick or i have to pick her up early, she's not the LAST kid there b/c i had to travel all.the.way home to get her.
the only downside to close to work is what if for whatever reason, your employer changes .. will the kiddo change daycares too ?!? its a rough transition to go from one dcp to another dcp. again been there, done that.

Good perspective.

Thank you to both of you for the additional perspectives. Honestly, I'm really not sure what would work best for us. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this day care stuff and it's so overwhelming.
Re: recs for childcare
Have you tried Child Care Links? I started my search there and found an in-home pretty quickly that Iiked.

I haven't tried there yet. Thanks for the link, M!
