We just switched from a center to In-Home, and so far we really like it. I was just wondering, do you get your provider something at Christmas, or other holidays, or just figure that's what she's getting paid for?? What's the norm?? Anything else I should know?

I used to with our old sitter, for various holidays, and no, not healthy stuff. They got plenty usually. I wouldn't bring Halloween treats in, they had scads at home. Usually baked treats, like cupcakes or brownies. Since it was maybe every two or three months it was no big deal. I usually brought her a coffee once a week.
I'm not to sure about our new sitter, she's a grandma type and loves to bake, so, not sure if she'd be offended. I might bring her something towards Christmas though.
I used to run a licensed in-home daycare, so I thought I'd give some input. I usually had 3 families at a time (2 kids apiece) and only one time did I not get a Christmas gift from a family. That wasn't something I expected when I went into DC, but almost all families give something. They ranged from a week's pay, to a $40 gift card for a restaurant, to homemade treats and a card made by their kiddos. Wine was always appreciated too.
I don't think it matters WHAT you give, it really is just taking the time to say "We appreciate you." It means a lot.
As for Halloween, the treat the kids were most excited about was when a mom sent in individual little bags with a Halloween pencil, a big eraser, and a cookie. Obviously that won't work for little babies, but the pencils were a HUGE hit with the preschoolers.
