what to give 18 mo old for a cough?

I know you can't give medicine for a cough if the child is under 2 but anyone have a home remidy, like something they can eat to soothe it? DD has been coughing all day and she's teething too so we did give her tylonol last night but she had a hard time sleeping regardless.

    When DS has a bad cough, I'll give him a tiny bit of honey (like, maybe 1/2 teaspoonful) before bed. It seems to help.

    Zarbees -- All natural and safe for children over 12 months.  I found it at Walgreens.

    Hyland's has a homeopathic nighttime cough and cold syrup that is for 2 and up.  I called my pedi last week and asked if it was okay to give it to DD (she's 18 months and 25 lbs) and he said yes. It worked!

    A couple weeks ago DD had a bad cough. A teaspoon of regular store bought honey totally did the trick.

    I gave my daughter Little Remedies Cough and its honey type liquid  It has worked for my sisters 3 kids and my own....just a thought!

    Our Doctor told us no honey before 2 years old because it contains a harmful bacteria in it, that can even be fatal. Did the no honey  before 2 rule of thumb change? or is just something you choose not to follow? ( Just wanted to say no judgement here, was just curious) ?

    My pedi said no honey before 1 yrs old.  I give DS honey/ lemon mixture when he has a cough.  No milk because it causes more congestion and mucus - soy is fine if you are comfortable substituting.  I also make him fresh OJ every morning on the days that he is sick for the extra vitamin C and use vicks rub on his chest, back and feet each night.

    My mom swears by putting Vicks on ur feet and wear socks when you go bed...she says it works. ???
