I had a doctor's appointment today and my blood pressure was 140 over 87. It's never been that high in my life and up until a couple weeks ago it always hovered at 110 over 70. My doctor sent me for blood work and I have to go back in a week to have my blood pressure taken again.
Has this happened to anyone else?
My doctor says there is nothing I can do about it and it's brought on by the pregnancy.

Re: Has your blood pressure gotten higher?
Nope. Lower. It sucks. I blackout and get really dizzy. Pre-Preg. I was 110 over 70 too. Now it dips below 100 which sucks. I always have to sit and get up slow or I will fall over.
Hope yours doesn't get too much higher

YES!!!!! I was a bit underweight before and always cold..it was only about 85 over 40..
Now i am always hot and it is 'normal' range over 100..and 25lbs heavier.
Your Dr. is WRONG. ::sigh:: You can control your high blood pressure when you are pregnant by eating a high protein diet. It is amazing to me how little OBs know about proper diet during pregnancy.
When my BP was elevated with my first pregnancy my MW put me on a high protein plan and my BP came down and stayed that way for the rest of my pregnancy (basically from 28 weeks till I delivered- and my daughter was very late).
You need to eat AT LEAST 80 grams of protein a day. This can be challenging at first. You will have to cut out other foods in favor of those high in protein. Meat, eggs, cheese, milk and nuts have protein. Greek yogurt is great. I also make protein shakes and there is a bar out there called Think Thin that has 20 grams of protein and no sugar which I eat once a day for a snack.
You should also cut back on food high in bad sodium- anything processed or from a box especially. A little bit of sea salt added to your food is fine.
If you have not already- cut caffeine out completely.
Avoid sugar.
Make sure you are getting all of your water in.
You might also want to consider the level of stress in your life- see where you can cut it.
If you don't believe me, consider seeing a midwife or dietician for a second opinion. You are heading down a dangerous road IMO by just sitting around and doing nothing. One that could lead to unnecessary pre eclampsia, unnecessary inductions before your EDD and even an unnecessary c-section.
My blood pressure is always higher (nothing crazy but still something to watch) when I'm at the doctor's office. I get myself all worked up over nothing and it's annoying. I just can't seem to calm myself down when I'm in there. I'm thinking of getting an at home blood pressure cuff so I can test myself when I know that I'm calm and not worried so I can get an accurate reading and know for sure if I do have high blood pressure or it's just 'white coat syndrome', like my regular doctor has told me.
Thanks for the info. My doctor really isn't the brightest. I am going to call my old dietician to see if she can make up a meal plan for me. I do tend to eat a very little meat so I can see how I would be low in protein. Thanks again!
