Stay at Home Moms

When will you go back? What will you do? :)

I seriously don't EVER want to go back to work...Just the idea of it gives me anxiety. I was in sales, and I know I do not want to go back to that, especially after having kids. DS is 2, and I am pg with #2...DH and I always say that I will probably go back once they are in school full time...but I still think I will only do mother's hours or part time-I would like to be around for them as much as possible! What I will do-I have no idea!

Anyone else? :)

  • Wait until DH pushes me out of the house kicking and screaming and then take 5 or 6 years to find a job :)  Just kidding.  I hope to get a job at DD's school as support staff or one of the preK teachers.

  • Well, me staying home isn't long term.  I'll have been home about 3.5 years by the time I go back.  I'm in school now and will graduate in May 2013.  After that, it's back to work for me.  While I wish I could stay home longer than that, unless dh's work situation changes a lot, it just isn't a reality.

  • I'm thinking I will do something with flexible hours like retail. I want to work something like 10-2 while DD is in school. I had my own business before and I would love to start another one. I will wait until DD is older though, maybe 10 years from now.

  • i went to school for criminal justice but never got in the field after i graduated. i would love to pursue it but its a field with hours that arent very conducive to raising a family.

  • Lots of volunteer work for me :)

If I decide I want to go back to work, I'll probably sub in my kids' schools/district. I used to teach, and while those are good hours, you bring so much work home...it's just not for me anymore. I could tutor (MAT in Reading), but those would be after-school hours, which I don't want either. I like the flexibility of subbing; you just log online and pick/chose they day and time you want. They have lists of available sub job openings every day.

  • The only reason that I am home now is because I want to be a police officer and that career doesn't go well with having babies. My plan (which may change) is to go to the academy when my youngest (which we plan to have in about 2 years) will be around one. Sometimes I kinda feel like I am in limbo just waiting to have another baby so that I can start my career. Then I remind myself how lucky I am and to enjoy this time with my children because they grow up so fast.
  • No idea if/when I will go back. My mom and I were just talking about what her schedule was like when we were in school. She was probably even busier then! Carpools, PTA meetings, shuttling us to practices, getting dinner ready, errands, etc. It was never ending.

If I do go back, I have a lot of options. I may continue freelancing like I am now, just with more room to get that done during the day. I may find a PT gig in my current field. Or I've been toying with the idea of a resume writing business. Time will tell...

    Work Schmurk.

    haha!

I will work someday when the kids are in school (which is forever away since we aren't done having them yet). I WFH now and would ideally keep doing that - otherwise something flexible part-time. But I cannot see myself doing something 9-5 ever.

  • I do not ever see myself being a 9-5. If our current business does not work out then, our plan to buy a farm and I will work the farm and do freelance work on the side while homeschooling the kids.
  • *sigh* This is a sore subject for me right now. We're looking to return to the States this year, at which point I'll have to go back to work full time in finance, which I do NOT want to do. DH's expectation is that I work full-time to help support the family. While I know that we could live on a smaller budget, he wouldn't have it. He doesn't want the sacrifice, and I've had these last three years to stay home on 'vacation', as he sees it. :(

  • I am a pastry chef and I am currently interviewing for part time hours at a couple of restaurants.  I really want to refresh and sharpen my skills and build professional relationships before having more kids.  If all goes as planned I will work 20-30 hours a week until we have our next baby in 2 years or so.  I think DD is getting to an age that she would benefit from daycare and I have started to crave some time dedicated to working on my skills in a professional environment.  If the restaurant thing doesn't work out I will work on doing more dessert catering from home.

Eventually, when DH is finished his training, we have paid of medical school loans, settled somewhere for good etc ... I would love to open a space that teaches cooking classes and hosts small dinners, does catering etc.  DH works 80+ hours a week so until we move somewhere near family or can afford help I will probably continue to stay at home or work part time to be able to manage the varying schedules with having kids in school etc.

I have also toy with going back to school and getting my PhD in History - focusing on food history and culture.

  • I don't ever plan on working a 9-5 either.

When baby #2 is born, I really want to find something part time in my field (I am an esthetician). I'd love to work 2 days per week, 3 max.

& then I"d love to continue the trend for as long as possible. :)

  • I never want to go back full time.  I am a nurse, so I will probably to part time or PRN work once the kids are school age.
