Natural Birth Dr. Alexian Bros. Elk Grove Village

I am looking to have a natural birth and am hearing many mixed things about dr's/midwives who deliver out of Alexian Bros. in Elk Grove. I found a midwife I loved but did not have nearly as pleasant visits with the Dr's...I decided to change Dr's based on recommendations and I'm not sure how I feel about the new midwife, part of it could be me being overly critical of everything they say and do and taking things out of context. I'm curious as to others, who had or wanted to have a natural birth and gave birth at Alexian experienced and with whom...if you dont feel comfortable posting feel free to PM me! Thanks!!!

  • I have been to Alexian for other things, not for anything related to my pregnancy, and have had mostly very good experiences. I had a procedure done there shortly before TTC, and my anesthesiologist was the best. They gave me tons of blankets, even heated ones, and gave me plenty of time in the recovery area. If I wasn't having a home birth, Alexian would be high on my list of places to consider, just because I have always received good care from them. My SIL birthed at Northwest Community and felt constantly pressured to accept interventions, and I haven't heard complaints about that with Alexian, so I'd say you're probably at an advantage just with that right there.

I delivered at NCH and never felt that way! But, maybe thats because I told my nurse up front that I knew my pain relief options and that I would tell her if I wanted any. She did have me sign the concent for the epi, just so that it was on file if I wanted it, but she never mentioned it again.  I did give in and ask for it, but it was on my terms.

We took an L&D class at NCH and the nurse that taught it, told us that about the different pain relief options and told us if we wanted to avoid them to tell the nurses and they will respect that. I would hope hospitals would respect that.

Also, talk to your doctor, so they know ahead of time that your plan is a natural birth.
