Best Baby Carrier for New Born

I plan on wearing the the new baby alot so that I can play and interact with DD more easily.

I have a hands free mei tei but never used it when DD was a new born. I am thinking that it might be too big and not provide enough support for a new born.

Can anyone let me know what carrier they like for a new born?

Thanks in advance.

  • I love my Moby. It took some practice at first, but has been great!

  • i used the moby for LO #1 but it was a pita to put on and it hurt my back. i got an ergo when she was about 3 months old and used that. I have been using it for LO #2 since he was 2 weeks old and its been great. he was a big baby (9 lb, 11 oz at birth) and i dont even use the newborn insert that i had bought with it.i just stick him in and use the head part up at all times that is supposed to be used for naps to support his neck.
  • Moby was too hot for my DD.  I'm going with an ergo or beco for #2.

  • Loved the Moby and used it until DS1 was about 5 months old, then used the Ergo. Will probably do the same this time.

  • I like the bjorn for the first few months, especially with 2u2. It's so easy to get on/off.

  • Mei tai hands down.  I hated the Moby with DS - too much of a pain to get on and off and too much fabric.  I used a Hotsling a lot with DS, but I wanted something that'd be even more hands free with DD.  I loved the Ergo, but felt like it was too bulky for infants when I used it with DS.  I had an insert (old style) and didn't like that - too much extra padding.

I finally caved this weekend and bought a used Mei tain and LOVE it.  DD loves it, I can see her easily, but she's well supported and upright, it's great!  It's not as easy to put on as an Ergo, but so much easier than a Moby.

  • The Moby is great, but I also recommend a ring sling.  It's easy to get on/off and you can wear the baby several different ways (cradle, tummy to tummy).  I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of use out of my ring sling once #2 arrives.
  • Moby, ring sling, and k'tan (which is like a simplified moby and comes in a warm weather version).   I have the Ergo with the newborn insert, but I felt like it was way too bulky and got in the way a lot when I used it when DS was a couple months old- I don't think I'll use it for a NB at all this time.

  • I got one of those Seven Everyday Slings for free. Didn't think much of it when I received it but as it turns out, DD2 LOVES it.
