2nd Trimester

Getting headaches every day

Anyone else?  What are you doing for it?

Re: Getting headaches every day

  • Tylenol (and OB approved ibuprofen until 3rd tri if I don't have any acetominophen handy), more water, and I've also been "ordered" by my OB to go see a chiropractor, though I haven't had a chance yet.

  • How much water are you drinking?  It could be a simple solution of you being dehydrated.  Trying increasing your fluid intake before taking meds and see what happens.

    Good luck.

  • When I was at the stage of getting headaches daily, I was taking Tylenol (but I might as well have popped sugar pills).

What really helped me was laying in the dark with a cold compress on my head.  It took most of the pain away...

  • I had this problem! I always got mine in the evening (around 4-ish). I found that if I made sure that I got a nap sometime before the headache was due, I'd be fine until bed.

Granted, your circumstance might not allow time for a nap. But if you're not already getting one and you have time for it, I highly suggest it.

If it's a migraine, tylenol and a tiny dose of caffeine (chased with a lot of water) can help. Some migraines are cause by the blood vessels to the brain being to wide. The increased flow puts pressure on your brain, hence headache. Caffeine contracts your blood vessels a bit, making the bruising sensation on your brain decrease. Obviously talk to your doctor first, and if you have a no-caffeine policy by all means stick to it, but keep in mind that a teensy dose of caffeine (coffee, chocolate, soda) might help. :) And be sure to chase it with water after the headache wears off, as caffeine will reduce the fluid in your system.

  • My OB wrote out a prescription for some Tylenol 3's, (Tylenol + codeine). They work pretty well.
  • I've been getting headaches more frequently the last day or so, I think it's the dry air. I've been taking Tylenol as needed & drinking more water. We've also turned on the humidifier in our room.

  • Caffeine has been very helpful for me. In the grand scheme of things, I am not proud because I tried to cut it out cold turkey (and did with my first LO) but it helps so much that I give in.

  • I had trouble with that in July and August when it was super hot. I would even have to go lay in my car for an hour or so during the work day because I couldn't do anything. I called my doc and got a script for Fioricet and they do the trick when I have a bad headache. I try to just do Tylenol when it is starting to see if I can nip it in the bud before it begins and I have to bring out the "big guns."
  • Thanks for all the advice!  I will try drinking more water and talk to my ob.
  • Tylanol doesn't do ANYTHING for me... i may as well eat candy. except it doesn't taste good.  Anyway, I drink my one allotted cup of coffee a day, and i am headache free!  the caffene helps my headache go away, and keeps me happy!  I know a lot of other women say "no caffene" but 150 mg is safe, and there are no links to birth defects due to caffene. ( i did my research )
  • ME TOO!! I've taken tylenol which helps immediately.  I also see a chiropractor and, when I'm trying to go totally drug free I use and ice pack.  That only helps for a little bit though.

  • I find if I drink water all day long, I don't get them.  The days when I'm busy or for whatever reason don't drink water, I get a migraine.  Then I have to take tylenol, drink a lot of water, and take a nap.  That makes it go away, but not completely.  I haven't resorted to an ice pack on my head, but know if it's really bad I will, because holding a cold soda can (husband's not my own) to my head is heaven.
