Medical billing anyone? (nbr)

I am looking to change careers...I think.  Is anyone out there in Medical Billing?  Just curious about what the job is like.  Anything I should be looking for?

Everyone is invited to respond...lurkers too Wink

  • I don't know what the job is like but I can say that I have also looked into it. Here you need a certificate that you have been trained in billing and coding from a college. I'm a certified teacher with NO luck finding a job.

My sister's in laws are in the business or have moved up from B&C for a major hospital and they've been doing it for ever. I know you can also find some places that will allow you to work from home.

This is part of the appeal!  Right now I am either going to take a promotion (DH will be taking a cut though) and move or stay in my job and travel weekly with a LO.  I would love to be able to stay home and work, but something from 8 - 4:30 is appealing too!

The place I talked to today mentioned that as well.  I am not the fastest typist, but that sounded interesting too.  Since I have no background in the medical field, I was thinking maybe billing would be a good place to start.

Let me know what you find out.

  • I worked in medical billing for 5 months. I hated every minute of it. It's very monotonous, and I wanted to stab myself in the eye by the end of the day... that job is in the bucket with CNA as certificates I'll never use again!

  • Medical billing is all about compiling and submitting claims to health insurance carriers of patients. Medical billing specialists also have many other billing related duties in a medical office. I believe it?s possible to find home-based opportunities in this field, but not without first completing a medical billing course from a vocational school or community college. You may also require certification and experience before you can land a telecommuting job!

  • No input at all on the topic at hand. But HI!!!! you two!!! I miss you guys around here. I haven't seen either ofyou in forever.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • well if you are really interested you can take a course or a tutorial online. medical billing is not that easy so better be ready..

i totally agree with this, i did medical billing and followup for 2.5 years before becoming a sahm. it is very monotonous, boring, cannot keep your interest. i don't think i could go back to it unless it was my only option.
