those of you with a doppler

when were you able to find the hb on your own?

a friend let me borrow hers and i couldn't find it today. of course i had just eaten and was gassy so that was not helpful. i'm going to take it with me to my appt on friday to see if the nurse will help me learn how to use it. i googled and i guess 12 weeks is still a little early to hear it outloud. i have only had ultrasounds so far and have not had a doppler used at the office yet...

what week were you when you were able to get the HB on your doppler at home?

Re: those of you with a doppler

  • I heard it at about 10 weeks, I think.  It's usually between my belly button and pubic bone to the right or left of center.  But, this kid moves around and I have picked it up lower too.  Try with a full bladder and at different times of day.  Sometimes it's better if I do it first thing in the morning after I've been lying down for hours already.

  • They found it at the office at 10 1/2 weeks, I was able to find it myself first time I tried at 12 weeks and again this week. It has definitely gotten easier now that it's higher.

  • I got mine at 11 weeks, couldnt find it the first day.  But was able to find it the next day and have been able to since then.

Also, if you haven't seen funkymonkeyohyeahhh youtube video, make sure to check it out, super helpful.

  • It took me a long time to figure it out.  I tried for a while and got nothing so I stopped.  I was able to finally figure it out last night.  I finally got that galloping sound I was looking for.  Like others have said, try low and to the left and right of the belly button.

Check out the video that funkymonkey did.  It helped so much!

  • I was able to find it at 10.5 weeks. I found that if I have a full bladder or am too bloated it's more difficult. It's easiest first thing in the morning after I pee. I rented one like they have at the doctor's. My friend bought on a Babies R Us that wasn't as high quality and she said she couldn't find it until 18 weeks or so on her cheapy one.

  • I heard it at 8w6d, which is typically very early to be able to find it. Just take your time and move very slowly. I usually start about 2inches below my bellybutton and move down and then I will go the the left side and then to the right. GL!!
  • I heard it at 9 1/2 weeks... its hard to find though!

I heard the heartbeat lastnight! The baby was really low... between my bellybutton and my pelvic bone you also have to push down on it a little. It sounds like a very fast whooshing.

I don't think the whoosing is the heartbeat, it sounds like galloping horse. I found mine at about 8-9 weeks

  • OP, I found mine for the first time at 9w4d but it took a very long time to find it. I see that someone has already linked the video I made about using the doppler and the different sounds. I hope it helps! Everyone's body/baby is different so don't be discouraged if you aren't able to find yours as early as others.
