Charlotte Moms - Relocation questions

Hello! I am a Cincinnati, OH bumpie whose husband is interviewing for a position in Charlotte. I have never been, nor do we know anyone who lives there. The hiring process is expected to move extremely quickly, and we will be expected to move almost right away. I am beginning to look at apartments and townhouses on craigslist and on rent.com, but things are listed by neighborhoods - much like in the Cincinnati market.

What neighborhoods are nice, yet affordable for small families? We are expecting our LO in May. We would prefer to not have more than a 30-40 minute commute to downtown or the "hospital" neighborhoods (where I would end up working). What neighborhoods would you advise against? School districts to try for or stay away from?

 Any advice is much appreciated!

Re: Charlotte Moms - Relocation questions

  • I am not too sure about any neighborhoods directly in Charlotte, but I live in Huntersville which is a northern suburb. I work at Levin Childrens (attached to CMC) and it is about 30 minutes to get there for me.

The hospital is pretty close to Dilworth area, but I think that is pretty pricey!

Good luck with the search, I lived in Cincy for 2 years after going to school there!

  • We live in Concord and I worked at CMC which was a 30 min commute for me also.  Now, I work at CMC-Northeast in Concord, just had my first baby at their facilities, it was very pleasant and I love working there!

  • We just moved to the Charlotte area in July (from Western New York) and decided to live in Fort Mill.  It's right across the border in SC.  We chose it because of the high rated school district, the "family" and small town feel of the area, and the quick commute to Charlotte.  I know a few moms in the area who commute to Uptown for work.  Feel free to PM if you have any questions!
