What convertible seat?

LO is almost 16 pounds, and is getting too heavy to lug around in his infant seat (we have the peg perego, and its heavier to begin with, ugh, bad choice).
Who has purchased their convertible seat? What did you buy or recommend and why?

I bought the Safety First Alpha Omega because it's on sale at Walmart in Canada for $92 and I'm cheap/we weren't planning on having to buy one yet (we had the snugride 35 but LO decided he hates the angle). It rear faces up to 35lbs and is a booster seat up to 80lbs.
A lot of people seem to dislike it but the police officer who installed it said it's a very safe seat.
LO is 14lbs and so far it is working great.
I think this is part of my problem. Convertible seats seem to range from $85-$400... I don't remember that big of a range for the infant. I've heard really great things about the Britax seats, but they seem to be at the high end of the range.
The police officer told me that the Canadian regulations are stricter than the US and here if you pay more you're not really getting a safer seat, just more features or paying for the brand name.
Ahh, yes. Good point. I sometimes forget that Canuck is a...Canuck.

How long do the kiddos fit in a convertible about?
I bought a First Years True Fit. The lady at bru said it was most comparable to Britax and is RF to 35 or 40lbs. Also, we got two for less than one Britax. Its nice and roomy and LO loves it.
Honestly, take your car to BRU and try seats out. You would not believe the size of some of them. Some would not fit in my car, and I have an SUV.
I will probably do this for maybe another month, but he looks like he won't be comfortable that much longer. (it's fine that his feet touch the backseat now right?)
I just like to research things before I buy them, so I'm asking this now. I won't buy a convertible until we use it, because of the expiry.
I do find the infant one hard to do LO up in while already in the car. But its definitely something I could deal with for a little while longer.
It's not much easier with a convertible. And he's going to be a lot more upright, RF'ing in a convertible seat vs. the infant seat. Make sure you think he'll be comfortable being so upright at this age.
I didn't stop using my infant seat until DS outgrew it by height. I just left it in the car.
Re: the feet touching, he's fine that way. In fact, my DS was rear facing well past age 2 and he just would bend his legs. No biggie. If that's your concern, I don't see any reason to switch now to a convertible. Especially with the winter approaching. You'll appreciate being able to have him portable in a seat getting him in and out of the cold.
