Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

2nd m/c and lab tests

I had my 2nd m/c the begining of August. The dr ordered about 12 or 14 bloodtests for me to undergo, although he assured me he doesn't think there is anything wrong. I went yesterday and had the tests done. They took about 12 tubes of blood and said I shld have the results in about 10 days. Has anyone had a blood workup done after multiple m/c's? If so, did they show anything?

Re: 2nd m/c and lab tests

  • I had a m/c, then my DS, then just had another m/c both with a D&C...I had blood taken too, don't have results yet, they were testing for a few issues that can be treated with meds.  Good luck!!!! if you are like me, I would rather know I have "something" then work on fixing it then just keep falling into the "bad luck club"...hang in there!!!
  • I agree. I want answers. I want to be able to fix whatever the problem is before we get pregnant again. I don't wanna just roll the dice and pray that I don't have another miscarriage.

  • I just had my 2 m/c earlier this week and my doc is drawing blood for tests this coming monday.  I was wondering this myself, and not exactly sure what they look for...

I hope everything works out well for you!

  • Ticker warning.

I have had 3 miscarriages in addition to very early onset of preterm labor with my daughter. My last loss was at 14.5 weeks in April, after which I started recurrent pregnancy loss testing. There were a total of 12 different vials of blood they collected to test for a whole slew of items, including thrombophilias (clotting disorders) and autoimmune disorders.

My tests indeed came back showing that I have Factor V Leiden, though 10-15% of the Caucasian population has it. It also showed that I have a positive ANA, which may mean something, but we're not quite sure yet. I go for follow-up with a rheumy in October.

I think the best thing these tests can do for you and your doctor is to point you in the right direction of treatment for future pregnancies. I'm still learning that doctors honestly know very little about pregnancy and they are trying to learn what is best for every patient, since each is truly so unique. The best of luck to you!

Since they now have some better idea of what is going on...how is this pregnancy going for you?

  • It is going better this time. I've only had one episode of spotting which was very early on, prior to starting on lovenox, whereas I was spotting continuously for weeks with my last pregnancy.  Obviously I'm scared out of my mind about what *could* happen in these next few weeks, but for now I'm just taking one day at a time and trying to stay relaxed!
